I main Sheik but i started to learn Marth for a secondary and i'm used to jumping off and fair to edgeguard but that doesn't seem to be too good with marth, i've been trying to stand on the edge and dair when they are close and metor smash them with tip...so whats the best way to go about edge guarding?

Well I play some Marths, and they generally edgeguard with Dtilt on the edge a lot. If spaced properly, it hits below the ledge, and knocks them back, forcing them to use their Up+B repeatedly until they sweet spot. If they're a space animal, they're often dead.

Of course, since I use Link and Doc, a more preferred method is to hang off the edge, and jump off and Back air. If they spike, then it's usually kind of like a ledgehopped dair. I don't see them do it off of the stage too much, generally off the edge, but I personally am not sure if that's just a preference or what.

Marth and his mean edgeguards.... bleh.

EDIT-Cookiez reminded me about the Fsmash. I generally see it used in combonation with the dtilt, because people love to get anxious and come above the edge when getting Dtilted, and thats when Fsmash comes in.

hiIH covered most stuff, but i'd add the Marth's Fsmash to the list. It's a highly effective tool for edgeguarding.

Marth's spike from on the stage is more flashy than effective most of the time. D-tilt and F-smash get the job down just as well, and are easier to time. Also, going off the stage with Marth is pretty good, you just have to know what to go off with. Fair and Bair are his best off stage edgeguards, but neutral B is pretty appealing too due to it's larger range.

Just watch some videos of good Marths playing. I suggest watching Cort, Mewtwo King, and Cactuar if you're looking for edgeguarding tips, and Ken and Azen if you're looking for approach methods.

Yeah, ledgehop bair is one of my staples. Also, you could try tipper fair, jump, dair. Its pretty flashy, but fun. Otherwise, I usually just dtilt / fsmash/ neutral b.

Reverse Up+B is good against characters who grapple, because they usually don't see it coming.

If you tip the fair off the stage can you still hit the dair and make it back? The way I usually do it is hit with the middle of the sword then jump and dair quickly after.

It depends who you are fighting however for a wide choice of characters going off the stage and f-air edgeguard is really good.

Sometimes you might have to also drop off the edge and b-air but you can pretty much just repeat the process until they die.

The only characters I never see it happen against really is

Peach
Jigglypuff
Mewtwo
Pikachu
Pichu
Zelda

I sometimes see it done to these certain characters but it won't always work against

Samus
Kirby
Sheik
Icz
DK
Bowser

Generally for me I think I go off the stage vs every other character for practically all of my KO's. Marth doesn't have a hard time killing off the stage.

Especially vs space animals LOL

From the stage:
Fsmash
Dtilt
wavedash off ledge into Bair
neutral B
Dair

From the ledge:
ledghopped Dair
ledgehopped Bair
ledgehopped Nair (only if they land on the stage and you can DI through them so the Nair sends them backwards)
ledgedropped Bair

Off the stage:
Bair
Dair
Nair
neutral B
reverse up B (works well against spacies and grapplers)

Against spacies:
if they are using forward B to sweet spot you can use your jab to drop them down and force them to use their up B
if they are using their up B you can go out and hit them with anything, or stay on the stage and use counter

Against shiek:
always stay on the ledge, it forces her to go to the stage and she has horrible up B lag.

That's all I can think of right now. Basically just switch it up. Certain edgeguards work better against certain characters. Like the ledgehopped Dair works well against falcon and the ledgehopped Nair works well against sheik. Just experiment and figure out what works best for you. You also have to take into consideration the amount of time it takes for your opponent to recover, since ledge moves take longer to set up than on the stage moves. Good luck.
