I remember from the second trailer about Kirby smashing someone out of the arena (Link I think it was) and yet it just looked like as if the person was KO'ed from the sides. What happened to falling through the sky, screaming in despair, and then turn into a star?

Does anyone else want Star Kos to stay?

He's referencing a moment in one of the trailers when Kirby up-smashes two opponents and they fly off the top of the screen. Instead of the star animation or hitting the screen, it just does the typical explosion style KO.

It's sad because it's been around since SSB and it's just a neat effect. The downside is that when two people get KO'ed off the top simultaneously, sometimes one person will be out before the other because one goes into the background, and the other hits the screen. This can lead to some weird skewing of a match's results.

There is an obvious solution though, which is simply make the screen hits and star KO's take the exact same amount of time, but that makes too much sense.

Visiting from above.
I'm almost positive that when they were demoing Melee at E3 2001, the same thing happened. It was an insta-kill off the top, and then they added Star KOs to the final version.

Most likely the effect has just not been added yet. Still, as mentioned, it wouldn't be the worst idea to take it out seeing as it can potentially alter the results of a close match. Hell, two players both going up isn't even the whole issue: what if one goes down / sideways and the other up? Why should only the player that was sent up deserve to survive?
