I relalized I have no idea how to correctly counterpick stages for Tournament battles! If someone could give me a run-down of what lvls to ban and what lvls to counter pick against what characters I would appreciate it. If some one wants to I can try and keep editing this to make it a decent guide! I just started tournament play so I apologize if this doesn't work out as guide!

For the first match, characters are chosen double-blind - at the same time, so that neither player knows his opponent's character beforehand. In practice, this rule is often ignored, but players always reserve the option to force a double-blind pick

The loser of the first match (and of successive matches) chooses the next stage, and then the winner chooses his character, and then the loser chooses his character. This series of choices is called slob picks.'

The loser can pick any stage except for the following, and possibly more, depends on tournament.
* Brinstar Depths
* Flat Zone
* Fourside
* Great Bay
* Icicle Mountain
* Temple
* Yoshi's Island (N64)
The above stages are banned.

No stage can be chosen twice.

Some tournaments allow the winner of the match to ban a stage from play- it gets "striked" and therefore, even if chosen on random, cannot be played.

I understand how it works! that should at least help someone but my question is what stages should you ban when using Falco and when counter picking which stages are good to choosa dn against what characters.

Depends. A place with a high ceiling against vertical KO'ers like Fox in Japes... Spiking into the river makes great KO ability, and illusioning into edges makes Falco a bit faster...

FD is also a great places for Falcos to SHL the crap out of someone....

Pokemon Stadium is an alternate if FD gets striked...

If you're a platform guy, try Yoshi's Story- the side walls seem a bit closer.

Blah, I cant think, I'm tired.

but i always pick final dest.... cause falco doesnt take s*** from anyone....
and FD is one of falcos best IMO because there are no platforms... falco doesnt like platforms...
yeah just pick final destination...
and if he counterpicks a character to fight falco on final destination.... pick final destination...
and if he picks long range... pick final destination...
if he picks marth....

lol... but seriously....

Falco on final destination seems like an obvious choice for a good comfortable matchup for falco however you shouldn't overestimate his advantage here especially vs. people like fox and marth who can chaingrab falco very easily ... and if you aren't experienced with DI then you will get destroyed.

Personally though I like FD I prefer Pokemon Stadium and Dreamland because they are both relatively big and not nearly as good for chaingrabbers. This gives falco room to maneuver with lasers and not get gimped too badly.

Don't listen to lukey when he says "falco doesn't like platforms"... falco LOVES platforms, but then it really depends on your technical level of skill. Falco doesn't like platforms if hes playing against marth and he gets stuck above him eating utilts and uairs all day long which lead into a tippered forward smash....... especially if you can't fight back. If you don't know how to combo well on platforms then its best you stay away from them against marths, since they have a more obvious advantages (especially on places like YS where the sword reaches through easily). If you do know how to combo on platforms however your matchups against marth with be made easier (though I believe marth still has a slight advantage especially on YS)..... and your matches against pretty much everyone else will be made MUCH easier because platforms continue combos/lead to techchasing etc...

In summary its basically a matter of objective facts/skill/ and preference. Falco likes stages where he can maneuver easily and take advantage of shl, if he has platforms he is very capable of comboing on them which are facts. If you suck at platform comboing though and need to work on it then you should probably stick to the bigger stages where you can really abuse your laser nicely for setups etc... and well if you hate the **** stage it doesn't matter how well falco plays on it you will always be at a disadvantage and be johning all the time ("oh this stage is so gay, so and so is so cheap here yadda yadda") For example Dope (one of the best falcos in the US) really loves rainbow cruise as a counterpick, most do not because it moves etc and can be frustrating if you aren't used to it... but he's dope for a reason and we aren't.

Yea Dreamland and Pokemon stadium are usually my first 2 picks but I was also wondering what stages I should ban if any. Are there any stages that Falco should probably just stay away from like YS or Battlefield?

Brinstar is banned. FD is an obvious choice because it's falco's destination. Yoshi's Story is nice because of the low ceiling so you can get a couple shines to kill someone around 40%.
Stay away from Dreamland 64 if you're going against Ganondorf, but go there against Fox.

Like I was trying to explain YS and Battlefield can actually be amazing for falco if you know how to manuever and combo on platforms well, they continue combos and give him more options since falco is a very mobile character... its also easier to tech chase since they don't have much room to roll or do anything on a platform. If your technical abilities aren't that polished though (like you have problems with wavelanding and falling through platforms, or waveshining on platforms) then the platformed stages probably won't be that great for you... but no they are not bad if you can use them properly, take a look at some of forward's or pc chris's matches they both know how to maneuver around platforms really well (especially forward).

Ummm brinstar isn't banned. Brinstar depths however is always banned.

And DL64 is one of the best stages against Ganon. Ganon doesn't have mobility why would you give him less of a disadvantage by taking away a big stage for him.

That's what I thought... maybe he was thinking that gannon can waveland edgeguard there well or something.... though he can do that on other platformed stages so in actuality I have no idea what he was thinking.
