Once again, me being tired out from work, I’m late on an update, so today we have Wednesday’s stage update, and todays much more interesting update, a new technique called the Footstool Jump.

<img src="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage08/stage08_070725a-l.jpg" alt="Hyrule Temple MK II" />

<strong>Skyworld</strong>
As most (IE all but the very few people who haven’t seen Trailer 2) know that this stages platforms are destructable, which means you really have to watch out.

<img src="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage08/stage08_070725b-l.jpg" alt="Whoever built this, expect a big lawsuit." />

Of course, when the platforms are gone it’s spike city.

<strong>Footstool Jump</strong>
This could be what we saw yesterday. This new technique is pretty simple in theory.

<strong>STEP 1: Jump towards your enemy</strong>
<img src="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique03/technique03_070726a-l.jpg" alt="I know these steps are hard, but try and keep up!" />

<strong>STEP 2: Time the pressing of Jump perfectly</strong>
<img src="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique03/technique03_070726b-l.jpg" alt="KIDS! Make sure you wear a helmet when being jumped on by dinosaurs!" />

<strong>STEP 3: Profit!</strong>
<img src="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/technique/images/technique03/technique03_070726c-l.jpg" alt="Flying through the air, with the greatest of ease and shaking knees!" />

It can be used on airborn foes too, which is also a Meteor Smash (A move that knocks them downwards) as shown below. It’s not known (though probably safe to assume not) wether you can land on them normally without pressing jump, or wether it’s like Melee where you fall “through” them.

What a week though! 2 Stages, a character returning and a new stratagy to boot! Makes you wonder what Friday has in store for us!

Oh, I loved thursdays article. this only further signifies how much more this game will be equal in game play. Now that every player can meteor smash, characters like pikachu and kirby have a better proposition when it comes to edge guarding. take that top tier!

wow so thats what yoshi was doing to DK on Tuesday… hey i bet it could be used in multi player to… like if your trying to get across eledin bridge then you would double jump, use your special jump then your pal would go under you and you would spring off their back… its not the best strategy but it fits the bill… and in sky land any spike move would be instant death since you would just break the platform… no wonder its pits stage he would rule the sky here… some very interesting updates this week, dont you think?

Since it’s a meteor, you can cancel it…

Anyway, it looks like the stomp thing can setup for some nice combos.

Sorry Monkey guy.

Yes yoshi looks very adorable on the screens. ^_^

I like how sakurai allows makes wario the butt of his joke.

So has anyone noticed that the new technique is almost solely mario based. i was wondering why mario didn’t have an attackwhere he jumps on his foe (it’s his trademark attack after all) Well aparently he can do it now with the rest of the smash crew.

i wonder if you can grab on to people that you land on and flip them backwards or forwards that would be cool. the background for the stage is pretty cool but its obviously palutinas (or whatever) palace.

oh and blob its obviously cancel able you just jump before you land on someones head unless you’ve already used your 3 jumps it would be a really anoying thing to do if both you and your enemy were plunging to your death… lol ;)

Also greenblob we can’t be sure that we can cancel meteor smashes in this new game.

well men I’m off to get my beauty sleep so I can wake up nice and pretty for tomorrows update.

i wonder if you could like, jump on people consecutively in multi player. it be pretty funy if like, all four people in a multi player battle get off the stage and the bottom one goes jump jumpjump. they should try that out in brawl…

IF YOU DONT TIME IT RIGHT, WILL YOU STILL LAND ON THIER HEAD?

hey about the stage if u look it looks like theres a platform under the stage nd 2 the right can u go on that?

I don’t like this idea. When fighting multiple foes, one could be trapped from both right and left. Now, someone could add a third opponent (or just have the second one jump) and hold me in place.

Hefaustos: They said it was a meteor smash. A “spike” is only different by trajectory and its ability to be canceled.

I hope the game gives us the option of turning Footstool Jumping off.

y? it gives 2 v 2’s alot more strat potentially nd now every charachter has a spike now its the whole balance thing i think its a good idea nd its not an instant death u can cancel it it makes the recover edge guard thing more intresting i htink i like how u dont just go through the guy more realsitic i like it

some1 talk about hte new stage i like it alot cuz alot of these stages seem tournament legal already we have a good amount of tourney stages the more the better

Well yes, but this technique takes all of the risk out of doing a Meteor Smash or Spike. One must consider that they’re not always going to be the one to knock their opponent off in a match. Now, all my opponent has to do is jump, not risking a miss if they can’t get me to go down, then if they DO succeed they get a free jump back?

I thought about that too–how it makes meteors safer.

I have an awful habit of going out for spikes/meteors when it might be a bad idea–high risk, high reward is how I play =P

But if you get a free jump after the attack, it makes it less risky…

lol wario + DK = BOOOOOOM!

I think this move might actually be preety cool as it MAY do little to no damage(after all luigis SSBM pose does 2% or 3% but its still a meteor smash.correct me if im wrong though.)

I wonder if it’s possible to do a Footstool Jump on Bowser. Cause in EVERY Mario game, jumping on Bowser just hurts Mario.

Luigi’s taunt just does 1%

All I can say is I hope that if you miss the timing or whatever you go through them like in Melee.

No Mic that would be so lame. It’s time Smash got a better physics engine.

Killertomag: you could easily dodge out of this attack on land and thus escape the team up.

Also It’s not like this move gives you another jump but rather takes advantage of the climax of the first jump and the start of the second (or thired fourth and fifth for multiple jumpers).

i wonder if on the footstool jump when you jump off of enemies it hurts them, I mean and i quote “you use your enemies spine as a spring” doesn’t that sound like it should hurt?

Homeless: Im not against a new physics engine, but Ive played a fighting game where you could stand on other people which greatly disadvantaged the person being stepped on. Might not happen in 1v1s much if at all, but for facing multiple oponents it would suck big time.

H

that might be true but if sakurai could find a way to get past this fault (with some new animation sequence possibly) then you have to agree that it would be cool. Like if when a play lands on another they latch on and are only capable of doing a new weak A attack (like grapple attacks) or jump off. The player underneath can also up smash the player above.

What if you could jump on the head, grab them. and toss them straight up. That may not be such a good fighting technique, but it would be fun to watch.

like being able to grab in the air? that would actually be kind of cool.

Speaking peach// i really hope they make her good as in melee..it would be veeery disapointing if they maker her like te kirby transition from smash 64 (like th ebest character) then to melee (he sucked)…i really hope she does not gain any “emotion” ability **** form her ds game…she wouyld suck…tohugh they probably make rher weaker, she was way to powerful in melee, her down smash (the skirt) could reflect almost any attack and really kick ass..i hopee they anouncee her soooonn this week!

Well i’m not saying i’m hoping for emotion vibe power from Peach, but that Sadness one was pretty awesome. It had extremely wide range and made her run extremely fast.

ha, I don’t if I’d say that game was completely awesome or horrible. I bet Nintendo had a kick out of making the game. Maybe Peach’s final smash can derive from the game.

If you think about it, the fast fallers characters, heavy characters, and low tier characters could make the stomp jump a really useful tactic. It could be good Ko’in move if done right and program right. I dunno, it’s just speculation until we actually play Brawl.

As for the stage, looks cooler than before, and everyone was calling it Angel Land [myself included! XD Looks like everyone was basically wrong [in terms of the name], lol.

I love this update. The game keeps getting better.

How come DK’s final smash came before Kirby’s?

H

Kirby copy paste two times:Who know? Who cares? We already know kirby’s final smash.

Johnknight1: I agree, everyone needs a meteor smash. And calling it angel land is completely wrong. It’s a land with angels.
