Smasboards suck
People seem to be mixed up on how long it took to develop each game...

Melee: 13 MONTHS
Brawl: 26 MONTHS (give or take a couple months)
U/3DS: 12 MONTHS so far (at most)

Add this to the first post please. :D

Anyway the Wii U would start selling like crazy if they were to put up a half ***** demo on the Wii U e shop of whatever they got completed so far. Just call it Megaman VS Mario.
You don't know how bad I want a demo. Come on Nintendo make it happen please.

I don't understand how releasing it sooner could possibly be a bad thing. Nintendo wants to sell consoles. In fact, I am surprised Nintendo allowed Sora Ltd. to develop Kid Icarus Uprising first. I wouldn't have made that decision if Wii U was selling horrible. That is for damn sure. Sakurai isn't the only guy working on the game. So his medical condition and stress aren't really factors in creating the game. I don't know what he does exactly; however, his condition shouldn't be getting in the way. They also have Namco to help them out. I would have actually contracted Sora Ltd. to make this game right after Brawls release so that it would headline with the release of the Wii U. Exclusives sell consoles. It isn't enough to KNOW it is coming. So no, it isn't a bad idea to aim for 2014... actually it is. They should have aimed for 2013.

That's a bit negative/dark even for my tastes, Evil.

Having actually gone through surgery for Tendinitis when I was younger, I wouldn't worry too much, though I do find it worrisome that he insists on finishing the games and just dealing with the pain rather than getting treatment. He's definitely deserved a break since Uprising.

Mario Kart 8 will (probably, spring 2014 announced) be released before Smash. That is a way bigger console seller than smash actually. So I don't think Nintendo are in a rush to get another console pushing game out for Q1 or Q2. Mario Kart will do that just fine for them.

Personally I don't care. Release it whenever it's ready. If I could choose when it would be ready and my choice would have no impact on the games quality? January first, 2014 :awesome:

Edit: on a second thougt. Q2 could be very likely. Late Q2 in june before hollidays. Wich would give a nice gap off 4-5 months between Mario Kart and Smash. Thought this up after seeing Amazons "leak" (wich I think is bull**** or just a guesstimate date. But the date could be accurate non the less.)

you gotta trust nintendo's judgement on this one brah. We have so little knowledge as far as the game's development compared to the big N. So if anyone knows what's best it should be the company manufacturing it. It's not like it has a bad track record of releasing rushed games.

It is a bad move.

Might as well wait until 2015 and put maximal effort in that extra long time, so Smash 4 will truly be filled with nice features and neat details.

It isn't necessary to develop the game for that long (look at Melee), but I am interested in what Sakurai and friends can do if they have that much time. I think Smash is a game that needs more then two years, because not only is a lot of content from different series required (with great quality), but the gameplay needs to be solid. A successful fighting game that handles many characters (we want many characters) must be balanced, creativity in the different movesets is important and dealing with other gameplay elements.

Also, this might just be me, I'd like a good single player that emphasizes the different game series characteristics and has a lot of interactive elements from them.

Finally, if they wait until 2015, Nintendo can make a sweet Smash inspired Wii U console bundled with Smash 4.

I think if it releases for Holiday, it's perfectly reasonable. That'd be a good 30 months of development, more or less.

To be honest I hate all of the time they put into the gimmicky stuff. I obviously come from a hardcore fighting game community. So I just like the foundation. I like a big balanced roster with tons of stages and that is it. I do not need to collect stickers and trophies that I never look at. I do not need to play 100 man melee variations. I do not need to have a solid story mode. I do not need to have any of that stuff. I just want a great core-game. I guess that is why I liked Melee. They laid off the weird extras. There was still a lot of cool stuff in Melee, but I feel like Brawl went overboard and now they are going to try and top it. If they were to improve anything I would hope it would be the stage editor.

Waiting till 2015 is a no go for me. At that point it would feel like a waste of money for the Wii U. I mean the console would dead by 2015 unless they step it up. I mean they released a current gen console for the next gen. No idea how well that will pan out 2 years from now. I am guessing not good though. :rotfl:

Personally, I don't mind if they seriously cut back on the story mode and cut back on some of the collectibles and so forth.

I'd rather have it in 2014. I obviously don't want them to release something unpolished, but people talking about how they WANT them to take to 2015... eeeeeh. No.

Also, bad business for Nintendo. I'm sure they very much want this out before holiday season 2014 at the latest. Wii U needs all the help it can get. Mario Kart and Donkey Kong and Super Mario 3D World are all gonna help, but they gotta keep the momentum up.

Well they did say that the characters are the most important aspect on the game. I'm sure they are working on that first. They seem have a better sense of project management this time around. Hopefully they do not get "feature creep" like they have been the past couple of times. Feature creep is something in game development where they come up with a new idea while making the game and try to implement it. Its usually frowned upon and a bad decision most of the time.

Well uh..hehehe i got a good point to add but really cba to say it....

Sakurai said that he wanted to uhhh..how do i put this..find smash a home? Elevate the series into something finally if you know what i mean? Im actually really looking 4rward to see wa he meant and what he has done. tbh scrapping story mode could be one of the best descisons for a few reasons.

Scrapping the story leaves for more memory. So I'm kind of glad that they did that this time wrong.

Drop the story and cutscenes, I'd personally not care whatsoever. I'm thinking there will be a delay like how Brawl had a few so expecting around very late 2014 to early 2015 for the WiiU version and early to mid 2015 for the 3DS version since last I heard they'll be releasing individually.

Been searching for a few minutes and can't seem to find it so far, I'll update on it whenever I find the article that said something about this. Also no it's not me talking about the 3DS system's complications w/ Smash, being my own opinion, I read it somewhere a few days ago in an interview pretty sure.

Hmmm its cool - But yh even though the 3DS is having troubles but if they release the WiiU version first it will make the 3DS version look...you know...like going to a chicken shop getting all your food and drink and months later your straw and tissues...you know what i mean?

Expecially when the roster is the same in both games and thats pretty much the biggest selling point of the game to the masses - the chars.

But yh not everyone has both consoles and will be getting both so i guess its ok i always assumed that they will either both release together or 3DS Version first.
