SSB64, Question on Realm of Possibility

I love SSB for the N64. I am very curious as to what is possible so far as adding modifications to the game. Is it possible to add new stages / characters / features? or is replacement the extent of what the community has achieved thus far? Also, how far can SSB modification go? Looking for all answers here, general and specific.

There are texture hacks, and model hacks for emulators. That's it.
