What's the best emulator to get SSB64 to run well on my Macbook Pro? My computer is about 5 years old, so it's a little slow.

Mupen64Plus I believe works fine with mac. This is only for offline though.
For ONLINE:
I use Parallels Desktop, costs about $50, but works so easily. Transitioning in and out of windows/mac is ez as clicking a button. I've heard Wine also works, and is free, though I'm not sure how it works with regards to windows (if you have to buy windows/etc). If you go this route (you can only play online via windows) then be sure to get Project64kVE. It is available on smashboards at this forum: http://smashboards.com/threads/smash-64-index-read-here-first.350305/ as well as instructions on how to set it up.

So I have a 2014 macbook, and yosemite OS, this has worked fine for me. The only problem is you can only emulate a game once, then once you close that game you have to restart the wine wrapper or it crashes, its not the worst thing in the world.

follow this guide, it worked for me:

Maybe this guide will work better, click on guide in the top navigation bar, then click smash 64, there is a mac section:

Also get a usb controller if you dont have one

sixtyforce is my favorite. Don't use mupen unless you're comfortable with a command line.

However, if you have the mayflash dual port usb adapter and want to use both ports, you do need mupen.
