This is my overall view of what I would like to see in SSB4. They’ve probably been in production since Brawl came out (Just like Brawl when Melee came out) so this is just some ideas based off of brawl game. It may sound like I’m bashing brawl but the list of its flaws is much smaller then the list of what is great about the game.

Gameplay
The overall speed, physics, and environment were alright and smash bros is always a game for non-traditional fighters or people who like to goof off. What really bothered me was the unbalance characters. It made it really hard to play some of your favorite characters because someone with a character like Snake could just own them. I played a game edit called “Balanced Brawl” where they adjust every character into a competitive character. It just tweaked things like Yoshi could do a recovery jump after his egg roll (Something the AI could even benefit from). This made Brawl really fun because now I could play anyone and feel like I can really beat them. I’m not saying take that system’s idea but I really like to make Brawl more competitive because you can still goof off and have fun too. If you want unbalance battles then use handicaps.

Characters
I like most of Nintendo selection and I believe they all have their rights in the game. Personally I believe that Smash Bros. is a Nintendo exclusive game but I know that Sonic was one of the most demanded characters and Snake was negotiated in by his owner. I think if we should have non-Nintendo characters then they should make a crossover game (Nintendo vs. Sega lol). But with a new game comes new characters and here are the people that I think should have made it too brawl.

Little Mac
The original fighter for Nintendo and he had one of greatest games on the NES. I guess I should be glad that he was an assist trophy but I thought he would make an excellent character. Now that he has a game on the Wii their might be hope. With his Star Uppercut and moves taken from the other boxers he would be a short little powerhouse. This is what I think his move set should be.

Up B: Star Uppercut: Knock the person up and slightly away when hit and can also be use as a recovery.

Side B: Bull Charge: Bald Bull’s evil move that can charge and deal a powerful strike to knock them back.

Down B: Flamingo Counter: In the original NES Don would just counter hit. Not to mention a lot of Mac moves were dodge and follow up with a counter.

Standard B: Macho Man Hook: A single spinning hook that knocks the person down.

Final Smash: Triple Star Uppercut. Uses near an opponent. He throws three hits each popping a star over their head. Then he finishes off with a super powerful uppercut.

Krystal
I was actually surprised that she wasn’t in the game at all. Not only was she well desired by fans but she also offers a unique fighting style. She would be light and graceful like Shiek but slower and more powerful. Using her staff would make her a stand out character and the special moves in Starfox Adventures were made to fit in smash bros.

Standard B: Crystal shot: fires a red blast.

Up B: Rocket Jump: This launches her straight up.

Down B: Quake: A charge attack that slams down knocking everyone on the ground around her.

Foreward B: Ice blast: Similar to ice climbers but able to move back and forth (like a fire flower) or have more power and only one direction.

Final Smash: Krystal Shard: She summons a crystal that seals her in. She’s allowed to move freely but can’t be damage nor give damage. After time runs or called the crystal explodes with shard in all directions.

Toad
Another person I was surprise that was not in Brawl. It was even hint of him being in Melee but he just became Peach’s meat shield. He was the greatest player in Mario 2, Chased after Wario in Wario’s woods, and now he’s in Mario Wii there is still hope. If he’s not playable, I guess he just likes being up Peach’s Dress.

There will be more character later.

Adventure Mode
I preferred Melee adventure mode over Brawl. I didn’t like the whole subspace thing that felt out of place. I think they should have Adventure mode but make it more of a merging of worlds rather then a generic world with Nintendo characters. If they want a way to make it work they could use portal to the realms and each smash character is chosen to be able to pass through the realms.

Ideas for story could be a little more closely related. Since most characters have a shadow or dark character they could have dark clones are trying to conquer the Smash world.

Stadium
I love stadium and it gives a break from the traditional battles. Break the targets, platforms, Home run, Multiman Melee, and my favorite is Boss battles. I really think they should include more bosses from other games then the subspace ones. Ridley was probably my favorite because it felt like a legit boss battle. Also not all the boss’s have to be super huge maybe some normal size ones as well.

Level Editor
I love the idea of the level editor and what you can do with it. You can design a level in a way that was appropriate for your style or just make something fun. Or what I like was make stages from other games (Balloon Fight and Wrecking Crew). What I didn’t like was the limited items and restrictions on the game. You couldn’t overlap items (which I found from a online level editor), you couldn’t rotate the items (spike ceilings), and couldn’t change sizes during editing. I would rather make a level that glitches then not be able to do something that could be really fun. Also it seems there was room for a lot more items but they were never put it in. If Smash had some downloadable content we could have tons of new items. Here are some items I would like to see as well.

Invisible Blocks: If anyone has ever played Mario Rom hacks they would know the chaos this item can do.

Lava or fire block: like in touch the platforms it would burn people.

Fire Spewer: Shoots a jet of fire.

Pow Blocks: Just like in Smash 64 and Melee

Bumpers: Like the ones in Balloon fight or Smash’s bumpers. Make them free float to make a pinball stage.

More to come

Downloadable Content
This is something the looked like it was going to be for Brawl but ended up not doing so. With downloadable content this game could last forever. New songs, level editor items, maybe even characters and levels. All this could be done through Shop channel or Smash’s own site and SD cards.

Items
Most of the items were really fun and nearly always made it better to have one of them in your hand. One I really didn’t like was the smoke bombs (because it made it did nothing) a few pokemon (Muchlax was worst then golden.) and some people didn’t like Nintendog (I really didn’t mind personally).

I find it rather annoying when someone postes their entire idea list that's not related to my blog. Please just point out common ideas (agreeable or not) and if you have a blog then send a link.

I'll be posting more blogs about characters, level editor, and boss battle.

I guess I should have linked it instead.

I'll be honest and say that the Smash Meter is never going to happen. And, well, it's not Smash. (How do you guys know that already? It's never been implemented before. And no, it's not the same as the FS in this game.) Just a little fantasy of mine.

Now that I read the blog I now understand the purpose of this thread. I still think the shielding system should be changed a bit. To punish those who shield to very strong hits. To at the very least, match the impact lag of shielding the hit to the ending lag of the move Breaking the shield shouldn't lead to a long stun I think. Instead their shield won't return for a short time and they could still guard, taking chip damage and against high knockback moves, reduce knockback very slightly.

Special Shield? Yeah it should be character exclusive thing or by special move.

Stadium:
Break the Targets: I'm undecided whether it should be like Brawl or Melee and SSB. There should be online rankings for stadium modes. I think items except for the flipper or bumper should not belong in this mode. Nothing much else to add.

HRC: I wished that air catching using aerials was optional, but it just made the Brawl HRC much more stupid IMO. There should be a shield and no shield mode. I would play the no shield mode since I am more partial to Melee HRC. And for kicks and giggles they should add optional mines on the field.

Add race to the finish: Should be a few different levels to race in, ranging from easy to very difficult. There should some variation in each of the levels to fit the characters. A bit like taking a grid, and then taking out the lines to fit the character. Multiplayer race seems like a fun thing. Also optionally add in items.

Board the Platforms: I don't this this is a necessary inclusion, if Race to the Finish gets in. Perhaps it could be much more precise compared to the SSB version.

Classic Mode in Brawl is dull. Fighting the same boss every time is dull. Just make it a fresh experience everytime we play it. Bosses should be series specific. Maybe a mid-boss too.

Characters:
I agree with you on Krystal and Lil Mac. Not so much for Toad.
-Megaman: Was pretty mad he didn't make it in Brawl. I was thinking he can change suits mid match. To balance the variety the movesets would be weak compared to the regular characters. Or just make many of his moves different projectiles from each of the suits (one moveset). I'm not the one to create a Megaman moveset, so I'll leave it at that.
-Bowser Jr.: Despite opinions about him, he's probably the only major character in the Mario series that isn't in this game yet. He should be quick with good power, but very light and one other big flaw, like range. Paint brush use would be cool for a couple moves. No shadow Mario please.
-More Metroid Characters: Ridley, Dark Samus, and perhaps another Hunter (pushing it though).
-One or 2 more F-Zero Characters: Samurai Goroh, Pico, or Black Shadow. Would rather have the Samurai in it. Deathborn as series Boss.

In Stadium I agree with Board the platforms and Race to the finish. I think Classic Mode should be random with different bosses (from boss mode) with a constant final boss (master/crazy hand).

As for characters Toad is a major character and has more priority then Bowser Jr. Toad has shown up in nearly every game, been playable, and even starred in his own game.

Megaman is a serious no because I feel that Smash is a Nintendo exclusive game. If you put Megaman then you have to put Street Fighter characters, rival schools, etc..

In Metroid the only one that is close to being a character is Ridley but he fits so much better as a boss then a playable character. Dark Samus is more color swap and none of the Hunters have shown real worth to be put in the game.

F-Zero characters I would have to say Samurai Goroh is the most appropriate since he's the rival wannabe for C. Falcon. Pico would be interesting but not big enough, and Black Shadow was a joke boss that died. Deathborn would make a good boss.

Well, the main reason I'm not so sure about Toad is because I have a hard time imagining a moveset for him that'll work.

About the relations to Megaman. According to the Brawl concept of adding in third party characters, that is true. I guess the only third party characters that should be added are the biggest icons. Despite this, I would love it if Shadow made it in the game.

Metroid. They are all about the bosses indeed. The only plausible boss that could become a character are Ridley and Dark Samus. Still, I agree with your reasoning. SSE would have had a field day with the monsters from this series.

F-Zero has many cool characters that could fit in, but low popularity and no emphasis on most characters in-game negates that possibility.

With Toad he could have his Spore attack and vegetable pull (He was better at that then anyone in Mario 2). A drilling headbutt technique would work with his head. He could fight kinda like Olimar in standard attacks. Also he would be really strong and able to pick up characters like Dk can.

If you want to read more about my paranoia about 3rd party you should read the SSB4 thread in General Brawl.
