Gimmick: Boost Gauge
The Boost Gauge is Sonic's signature resource mechanic which can be expended to perform some of his Special Moves.
It's split into four energy bars which are expended upon use of a Special Move and will automatically refill after it's used.
Quicker refills for the Boost Gauge could be achieved by attacking any opponent or performing aerial taunts (Air Tricks).
Specials
Neutral Special: Homing Attack
Sonic jumps into the air, quickly curls up into a ball, then propels himself toward the nearest opponent.
He'll bounce off any opponent who is using their shield. The jump will be skipped if performed mid-air.
Pressing "A" afterward makes Sonic perform Frontier Flurry mid-air, then finish with F Air, B Air or U Air.

Side Special: Boost/ Sonic Boom
Sonic charges forward at high speed, enveloping his entire body in a projectile-eqsue shield of blue energy.
The energy shield knocks away any opponent on contact. It disappears once a Boost Gauge bar is depleted.
Inputting backward will make Sonic perform quick roundhouses, rapidly shooting blue shockwaves forward.

Up Special: Wild Rush
Sonic briefly covers his entire body in blue lightning while darting in any chosen direction four times in a row.
This allows him to dodge projectiles, then attack any opponents. Each dart depletes a bar in the Boost Gauge.
Pressing "A" after striking with any opponent will make Sonic to perform Frontier Flurry, grounded or mid-air.

Down Special: Spin Dash/ Stomp
Sonic swiftly curls into a ball, revs up in place for as long as "B" is held, then dashes forward at high speed.
This depletes one bar in the Boost Gauge for each use. He can jump at anytime while using the Spin Dash.
In mid-air, Sonic performs a diving kick that creates a burst of lighting. He'll bounce on the ground if held.

Shield Special: Phantom Rush
Sonic charges forward at high speed and rapidly attacks the opponent, leaving behind some afterimages.
Tilting the Left Stick in any direction during Phantom Rush will allow him to perform one of four finishers.
However, Sonic can be stopped by shields or counters. Phantom Rush costs two bars of the Boost Gauge.

Final Smash: Light Speed Attack
Sonic gathers the Chaos Emeralds around himself, then uses them to temporarily assume the Super Sonic transformation.
Afterwards, he curls up into a ball and spin dashes around the screen at the speed of light to attack any of his opponents.
He then finishes with a burst of lightning around himself before Sonic returns to normal and the Chaos Emeralds fly away.
