Ok, I hope no one skips over this. I'm not really well known here or anything, I just kind of lurk, but recently ideas have been stewing in my mind concerning characters. Yes, individual SE characters have been discussed, but here I'd like to voice my opinion on all of them. I could do it in individual threads, but I've concluded that I think this is worthwhile discussion material.
So, first of all, why do I think an SE character could have a shot in Brawl? Well, honestly, if all we knew was that a 3rd party character or two were going to make the cut, I'd bet it all that it would be an SE character. Why? well, honestly, they've probably had the best relationship with Nintendo than most other 3rd parties recently. They just can't stop making DS games, and they have some Wii titles on the way. Not only that, but Nintendo and SE characters have been featured together in to games recently, Mario Hoops and some japanese board game. Not to mention, these are popular characters who could add to the game. Yeah, no individual is as popular as Sonic, but come on, who saw Snake coming?
Ok, so on to the possibilites. Really, they're all Final Fantasy Characters, so I'll begin with the only one who technically isn't.

Sora:
Well, he's a popular choice. He's the star of Kingdom Hearts, and appeared on the gameboy game. He could have potential moves, and his keyblade could possibly be fun. Of course, I don't see him as too likely.

Cloud:
I just want to get him out of the way. He made a tiny cameo in the GBA Kingdom Hearts game, but who knows, that may just be enough to get him in, considering he's probably the most popular RPG character of all time. He could potentially have a fun moveset, though I don't think he is all that likely.

Kefka:
The main antagonist of FFVI on the SNES and GBA. Ok, some argue that he isn't a main character, bu I beg to differ. If we were talking sephiroth, I'd give the argument always brought up when tails and knuckles are reccomended, but Kefka is different. First of all, there really is no main character in the game. Terra, Locke, Celes, and Edgar are all equally important. Kefka is just as important as well. He may even be more important in ways. Kefka is also present throughout. He's not some mystery entity like other villains, he's chasing after you in the beginning, and he's always around to screw things up. He also has cool final smash material, and moveset possibilites with magic. I can really see him making the cut. Oh yeah, and he has potential for the COOLEST taunt ever, being his horrific cackle.

Celes:
Ok, another potential main character from FFVI, and who I'd consider likely to make the SSBB cut. She could use her Runeblade, and magic spells along with her sword giving her a cool variety.

Other FFVI characters:
The only two others I can imagine making the cut are Edgar and Terra (Locke is a thief, and I can't see that being something emphasised well enough) Both are main characters, and both have possibilities for fun and creative moves. Terra could possibly have a final smash where she turns into an esper, which would be awesome. Edgar has great move potential, though, with all of his tools. Also, you could equip him with a spear and it wouldn't be odd.

Cecil:
The main character of FFIV, the game that revolutionized RPGs. He'd be great. He would have cool moves as either a paladin or dark knight. He's recognizable, and has been on a Nintendo console. Also, with FFIV being remade for DS, SE and Nintendo could both benefit business wise buy trying to make him more popular. Also, I was thinking, maybe he could be similar to samus in the form changing way. Say, you begin as Dark Cecil, but a final smash involving some holy spell could turn him into a paladin. It's a cool possibilty.

Bartz:
I don't know why, I just feel like mentioning him. He's not making the cut, but with all the jobs in FFV, he could have a cool moveset.

Luneth:
The main character of FFIII, really the only Nintendo exclusive FF game. He's gained popularity with FFIII DS, too. He could use moves from different jobs, and would be a fun character. I don't have much too say, but he's among the most likely of SE characters, so defenitely worth consideration.

Vaan:
Ok, I'm not crazy. The newest FF star I would say gives him a chance. He is in the new DS strategy game Revenant Wings, giving him a chance. He has no more potential of being fun to play than any other character mentioned, but the fact that he is so recent I would argue gives him an edge over others.

Black Mage:
Really, of the FFI characters, the Black Mage is the only one I consider. White mages can't fight, and a warrior would end up like every other sword fighter, only totally lacking personality. The Black mage would have a fun moveset with magic abilities, and can even use his cane. Not to mention, he's been with mario and the gang in Mario Hoops, so he's defenitely got a good chance among SE characters. While I personally would rather have a character with more personality, one with a name, BM isn't too farfetched now that we have a character simply named "Pokemon Trainer." In the end, he is a cool and actually pretty likely character.

Now, as for FF2, which I neglected, I'm quite sure it is the least popular of the series, and really a character from that game would be a stupid choice over everyone who I have mentioned.

Also, when it comes too assist trophies, characters like chocobos and final fanatsy sub characters would all be AWESOME. I think one FF character making the cut could open the door for anyone from any game in the series, so theres room for tons of really cool assist trophies.

And, for a hopeless dream:

Vivi:
Well, he's not going to make the cut, he's never been on a Nintendo system, case closed. But he is one of series most memorable characters, and is important enough to be the ONLY FFIX character in Kingdom hearts. He's got great potential, but it isn't happening, ever. Too bad, FFIX is underrated, and Vivi is just so cool.

Well, I hope you will all consider my opinions. Sakurai said 2-3 more 3rd party representatives, and that's 2 or 3 more spots to fill. (now I'm just going to ramble, so you can stop reading) At maximum, if you had a Belmont (which I would LOVE to see) which is likely, and Sonic(Who I hate to admit could possibly be inevitable((I hope not))), there is still possibly a spot for one more. But if a belmont isn't let in due to Konmai already having a representative, the only other 3rd party I see actually asking for a spot is SE. And, oh yeah, pretty much every SE character is cooler then Pac-man.
So, yeah, discuss and stuff.

EDIT: Well, I just realized I neglected to mention Crono, who could make the cut, as he is popualr and would have a cool moveset. Sorry about that everyone... Also, I don't really consider SMRPG characters as totally square, but feel free to mention them anyway, I'm open to Geno in the game, but not as the sole SE representative if he is in there.

At first when i saw the title, I was like not again -.- but u have presented your ideas in an excellent manner.

I'm a huge FFVI fan and I simply love Kefka and I think he would fit so well in Brawl - such a defined character with a lot to draw from. Imagine for his final smash that he turns into his God form seen in the final battle (Too awesome (and probably scary for the kids )) He could have a great B moveset involving his magic but i'm not entirely sure about A moves. Sadly i don't see him as very likely =(

I think if anyone, Black Mage would be most likely to make a show - great magic moveset straight away.

Whatever may happen, I would quite like some more "magic" users.

EDIT: I totally forgot about Crono as well. Yeah he would definitely fit, a large set of moves are possible for him. Luminaire for Final Smash ;) (or a chargeable B i guess - on that note, chargeable B moves are great when they can be stored!)

Cheers,

Dave

Thank you so much! I couldn't think of a better title, and as a veteran forum user at other websites, I feared that most everyone would just look over it.

But I totally agree, as I have said, Kefka just has so much potential, and magic users are very poorly represented for how unique they could be in the game. But, like you said for the A moves, I can see it happening. I mean, you could have some basic punches and kicks, but whose to say a magic spell of some sort can't be an A move? B moves could be such things as confuse, even poison which really wouldn't need charging, while A could be Fire and Blizzard, which would make sense for brawl.

Yeah he can be seen to generally represent the series and he's an iconic figure of Square - in my book anyway. I guess you could have his A attacks being simple attacks with different elemental characteristics to them such as colour, or fire, thunder, ice animations etc.

He would work and would be a pretty cool character in my opinion (although against all odds i'll hope for Kefka )

Cheers,

Dave

Save for the Black Mage, I say nay to any FF characters.

However, if they decide to add Chrono or Frog, then I would be extremely happy.

Frog would be incredible. It´s sad that Crono´s chances are exponentially higher, and he doesn´t have high chances in the first place.

Anyways, as interesting as third thread may be, a thread about Square-Enix characters in SSBB already exists. It outlines all the characters you´ve mentioned, too.
Ah well it was bound that someone would get there first. At least I got those ideas out though, I've been holding them in for a while.

I've always advocated Kefka for Brawl. Always. I made a moveset too, but can't be bothered digging it up.

However, I would also like to see Terra, Edgar or Locke in there. Terra better than Celes in my opinion, as more can be done with her due to Esper transformation. Either as a FS, or like Zelda/Sheik. Edgar has tools, and I saw an awesome Locke moveset somewhere.

Cloud and Sora can simply GTFO of my Interweb.

Geno...

I see no one else.

Especially nameless character classes.

Know it really doesn't matter too much but I'm going to say it because I just love them.
Sabin and Shadow from FF6. Sabin because he is freaking sweet and has Bum Rush!!! Shadow because he's a ninja...I don't think anything else needs to be said for that.

Unfortunately, I'm almost certain that if Square Enix were going to include a character it would most-likely be Crono from Chrono Trigger. Don't get me wrong, that would be sweet too, but I'd rather have Sabin or Shadow.

Crono's the most likely canidate because of many reasons. He's from a NINTENDO game; not a sony game. He's one of the most recognizable RPG characters out there, and he's pretty sweet too. Being recognizable doesn't always matter too much; Game and Watch, Captain Falcon, Ness, etc.(Not to say no one knows who they are but you can't argue that they're as well known as Mario, Link and Samus or for that matter Marth in Japan) but, being recognizable WILL matter to a third party developer who will want to make sure that they have someone representing them well. I mean it's basically like Capcom having Captain Commando represent them instead of Megaman. Although Square Enix has no one true mascot can anyone honestly tell me that having someone like Crono represent you be bad?

Just some thoughts...Go Sabin and Shadow!...yeah and you too Crono.

I'm starting to think that people don't understand the requirements for third-party characters to be in Brawl are. Characters from Final Fantasies above VI do not belong in or qualify for Brawl, period. They were never present on any Nintendo system, which is kind of the number one thing needed to appear in a Nintendo all-stars fighting game.

That being said, though, someone from Final Fantasy I, IV, or VI would be amazing. I actually have a complete Rydia moveset lying around, and I've been thinking of making one for Cecil, Kain, and Sabin too (though Kain would be a little tricky).

Insignificant third-party cameos in a third-party game which is part of a series originating on another console? That hardly counts. Putting in Cloud because of that would be astonishingly disrespectful of the NES and SNES eras as well as long-time Nintendo fans in general, and I'm sure Sakurai knows it.

I agree, some of the older ones are the best, but if I were to name my top 4, it'd be a mix of all the generations.
Also, I must argue once again, I think everyone underestimates Vaan's chances. yes, they're still VERY slim, but he's up there with Crono and Black Mage, seeing as how his appearance could come right along Square's upcoming DS game. Not to mention, he is the newest FF character, no matter how girly he looks (he's still WAAY cooler then Tidus).
And yes, I understand Vivi and Cloud really aren't going to make it. Never. I'd rather have cecil or Kefka, anyways.
