Springless triggers

So i took the springs out of my triggers and now wavedashing and l canceling has become a lot easier. However my friend told me that taking the springs out of my triggers is bad because i cant tech for 40 frames after an l-cancel. Is this true? Are there any other disadvantageous that springless triggers have?

Technically, this is only sort of true. A hard press initiates a window that, if you are hit into any surface in the next 20 frames, will cause you to tech. But it also initiates another window that lasts 40 frames, during which if you do another hard press you will fail to tech if you are hit into a surface. So L-canceling, then trying to tech a counterattack upon landing, will force a missed tech. However, if you don't push the trigger again and are hit into a wall or floor within that first 20 frames, you will tech automatically. This removes the ability to flexibly tech after L-canceling an aerial, but doesn't remove it entirely. It's still definitely a drawback to the other benefits that you get from removing trigger springs.

What I did: remove my R spring, and remove my L hard-press entirely (so it's only spring).

Best of both worlds except I can't L-R-A-Start anymore >_>

PMDT pls let light press count for that pls

oo i guess i will have to teach myself to l-cancel and stuff on different triggers now.
nvm i chose to make one trigger springless and the other with a spring.

Huh. I've removed both my springs for about two or more years now and have been L-cancelling not noticing this.

But as I understand Yeroc, if you still have springs, you can L cancel, (I assume using a light press?) and then hard press to tech a counter attack that hits you into wall/ground? If you have no springs, you can only hard press, and thus will activate your tech window upon L-cancelling an aerial? Maybe this is the reason I subconsciously SDI/DI into the ground upon realizing a counterattack is inevitable on a missed aerial that was L-cancelled, I get techs off the ground quite often.

Yes to both ?s, assuming you don't hit L again in the 2nd case.

Edit: @ 9bit 9bit , you just gave me an idea. I've been toying with the idea of doing what you did, but losing LRAStart isn't very appealing to me. But if you disconnect the negative side of the R button from ground, and wire it to the positive side of another button, say the Start button, then if you're holding the R trigger all the way down and hit Start, you'll get both R and Start. Then you can have a trigger that doesn't hard-press, but can still ragequit.

Do you know of a way to modify a controller that gives you hard press via any input of the analog? One guy mentioned a transistor might work or something?
Or then otherwise a way to do so in code through custom controls in PM.

Norway=)...
if you l-cancel with z you could remove both springs without any drawbacks in melee, but currently not in PM... i seem to be the only one complaining about that=(...
