This is the thread where we support ARMS's bouncer named Spring Man and hope he becomes one of the Fighter's Pass Vol. 2 DLC characters!

Who is Spring Man?

To see footage of Spring Man, click here

Spring Man is the main protagonist and one of the two main mascots of 2017's Nintendo Switch game called ARMS (Ribbon Girl is the other mascot). He's a human boxer who has springy arms that can reach all the way across a boxing arena. In ARMS his goal is to win the fighting tournament called the ARMS Grand Prix and defeat the commissioner of the ARMS League, Max Brass who also competes in the ARMS Grand Prix. Spring Man also loves pizza and he's a bit of a goof but when a serious situation occurs, he doesn't mess around.

Why should Spring Man join?
ARMS sold more than two million copies and got positive reviews from Metacritic which makes ARMS deserving of a rep in Smash. The game may not have become Splatoon's level of popular but two million sales is still very impressive for a new IP and not every Nintendo franchise becomes huge right away but the game was selling both before and after Splatoon 2 released. Spring Man would also have a very unique moveset. He has extendable arms that have great range. He can't have the same amount of range in Smash that he does in ARMS but the range could still be longer than Simon and Richter's whips. He also has a wide variety of boxing gloves he can unlock in ARMS. Most of these gloves belong to other characters but he can get his own pairs of them. These gloves include the Dragon glove which fires a long laser, the Boomerang glove which lifts opponents off the ground and traps them in small green tornadoes leaving them vulnerable and the Clapback glove which is shaped like a shield and it can both reflect projectiles and it can automatically launch any opponent that runs into it.

But wait, Spring Man is already an assist trophy, a Mii costume and a spirit. Isn't he deconfirmed?
Maybe not. Sakurai has never said characters that are Mii costumes and spirits can't also be playable. On Miiverse he made a post about Waluigi saying him being an assist trophy means he's not playable but he made this post several years ago back in the Smash 4 days. He can change his mind and let characters who are assist trophies also be playable. We've seen that characters can have multiple roles in Smash. Rathalos is both a boss and an assist trophy, Riki is both an assist trophy and apart of Shulk's Final Smash and Chrom is both playable and apart of Robin's Final Smash. If Chrom can assist Robin in his Final Smash and be playable at the same time then there's no problem with an assist trophy assisting other characters and being a playable character at the same time. Also if someone is using Spring Man and the Spring Man assist trophy gets summoned, the Spring Man assist trophy can look darker like jn online matches where two players are using the same character and the same alt of them.

Possible ideas for Spring Man's alternate costumes:
Say Spring Man can only have 8 costumes like most characters. Ribbon Girl, the other mascot of ARMS and Springtron, the robotic doppelganger of Spring Man can be alts for Spring Man. There can be 4 costumes of Spring Man, 3 costumes of Ribbon Girl and 1 costume of Springtron.

Spring Man's costumes:
- Spring Man's normal look.
- Spring Man's yellow haired alt from ARMS.
- An alt of Spring Man that resembles Ninjara.
- An alt of Spring Man that resembles Max Brass.

Ribbon Girl's costumes:
- Ribbon Girl's normal look.
- An alt that resembles Twintelle.
- An alt that resembles Dr. Coyle.

Springtron's costumes:
- Springtron's normal look.

A possible moveset for Spring Man:
Neutral attack: Short ranged punch, Short ranged punch, short ranged uppercut (3 hit combo).

Flurry attack: Press and hold A to make Spring Man throw short ranged punches repeatedly but while holding A, move the control stick in any direction to extend his arms further out in any direction.

Side tilt: Tap A to throw a punch which has a little more range than Simon's side tilt but press and hold A to throw a punch that has as much range as the longest ranged punch thd Spring Man assist trophy can do. Use the control stick to curve the longer ranged punch upward or downward.

Up tilt: Spring Man curves his arm high up into the air above him uppercutting opponents that are in front on him and above him.

Down tilt: Spring Man curves his arm across the ground in fron of him.

Dash attack: Spring Man puts his hands on the ground and pushes himself forward kicking opponents that are in front of him.

Neutral attack: The same as the side tilt. Punches that have some range and punches with long range that can be curved.

Forward air: It's like Mario's forward air but with a lot more range.

Up air: It's like Little Mac's but with a lot more range.

Back air: Spring Man does a short ranged uppercut to hit opponents that are behind him.

Down air: Spring Man kicks opponents that are right underneath him (this has a meteor effect).

Side Smash: Spring Man throws a long ranged punch using the Megaton glove which is shaped like a giant purple ball.

Up Smash: Spring Man uses the Tribot glove and aims it upward. It's a glove that shoots three bullets into the air all at once. One goes directly upward, one goes diagonally left and one goes diagonally right.

Down Smash: Spring Man wears two Kablammer gloves on each hand and swings them at the ground on his left and his right.

Neutral special: Dragon Glove/Rush Attack. It's a glove that fires a long laser. This attack takes a second to start up but it has really long range but the laser stops when it hits an opponent. Spring Man also has a Rush Gauge next to his percentage that fills up a little every time he does an attack that involves punching. When the gauge fills up, his neutral special becomes Rush Attack for one use only. It works just like the assist trophy's Rush Attack. After doing the Rush Attack, the Rush Gauge will empty and you'll have to fill it back up again if you want to do another Rush Attack.

Side special: Boomerang glove. Press and hold B to charge up this move. It takes a second and a half to fully charge it and when it's fully charged, Spring Man will automatically throw a long ranged punch using this glove. The opponent who gets hit by the Boomerang glove will be lifted off the ground and become trapped in a small green tornado for two seconds or until they land on the ground. They're also in a helpless state when they're trapped in the tornado. If you cancel out of doing this attack while the move it charging, you won't be able to throw the punch but a ring will appear around Spring Man when you cancel out of the move. The ring deflects projectiles and attacks. The ring disappears after a split second.

Up special: Gotta Bounce. Spring Man punches the ground and recoils himself into the air. After doing this he'll be in a helpless state until he lands but he'll aim his arm downward while in this state and he can move left or right while in the air. Anyone who gets hit by his arm takes damage and if you press A or B right when you land on the ground or on an opponent, he'll bounce off of them and back into the air.

Down special: Clapback glove. It's a shield Spring Man uses. It reflects projectiles and it automatically launches any opponent who runs into it. Press the shield button to put the Clapback away but press A or B while using the Clapback and Spring Man will throw a punch using the Clapback. The punch has some range but not as much as his other punches but the punch sends projectiles back stronger than they were before and the punch launches opponents further.

Grab: Spring Man reaches out using both of his arms to grab opponents. This grab has a little more range than Young Link's grab and it's also a tether grab that can grab ledges.

Pummel: Spring Man headbutts the opponent.

Forward throw: Spring Man's throw animation from ARMS.

Up throw: Spring Man throws the opponent into the air above him (this does damage to the opponent).

Back throw: Spring Man does Ribbon Girl's throw animation from ARMS (this does damage to the opponent).

Down throw: Spring Man does Master Mummy's throw animation from ARMS.

Final Smash: Hedlok. Spring Man wears the robotic helmet named Hedlok which has four extendable arms. When wearing Hedlok, Spring Man does a flurry of long ranged punches using both his arms and Hedlok's arms. After throwing punches using all six arms, Hedlok fires a ball of energy at opponents in front of him that explodes once it hits something and then Hedlok disappears.

Extra notes:
- Spring Man is the exact same size as his assist trophy.
- When Spring Man gets to 100% damage, his attack power will get a slight buff that he keeps until he gets KOed.

If you have any ideas for Spring Man being in Smash or anything to say about him at all, feel free to comment!

Kosuke Yabuki didn't want ARMS to have a playable rep at first because ARMS was too new back then but now ARMS is three years old, that should be old enough for ARMS to have a rep now.
