Spirits not showing up in normal smash mode?

In the normal smash mode, there's a spirit button next to your character on the character select screen. When opened it should give you a list of spirits you can use in battle, but when i open mine it looks like I have no spirits available when in fact i have many. The auto pick button is available and when I press it it picks a random spirit from my collection, but it won't let me pick it myself... Help?

I'm not entirely sure on this because I don't have my Switch with me right now, but I think you can only select spirit teams that you've made. (In case you don't know, they can be created somewhere in the collection submenu of the spirits menu.)

If that doesn't work then I have no idea
