I always thought Special Melee was such a great concept but pretty poorly executed, so a few weeks back I described how I think they could greatly improve it...here it is, accompanied by my horrible illustrations. xO
I think you get the general idea. Instead of having Special Melee split up into a bunch of different modes, you combine them into one robust mode; you have the Special Select, which allows you to set each of these special modes for each character, by switching the mode off and on with the little buttons - 1 for character 1, 2 for character 2, and so on. You have most of the modes that would work with this (Camera Mode and Fixed Camera mode, for example, aren't on Special Select, since...well, it wouldn't work). For Super Sudden Death, you also raise the intial percentage by pressing the Up and Down arrows to raise and lower the percentage. The big 1 and 2 in the northwest corners mean that Special Select is a second screen accessed from the '1' screen; on screen 2 you set the conditions of the Special Brawl using the Item Select-esque menus, and on screen 1 you set the severity of the conditions with the slide meters; there is not a meter for each mode, but only for fitting ones such as Lightning, Slo-Mo, Giant and Tiny - you decide how fast, slow, big or small your characters will be.
Most modes overlap, but not all; for example, you can't have Slo-Mo and Lightning both turned on for one character, nor can you do so with Giant and Tiny. Metal and Invisible, though, you can have on at once; while you won't be able to see your characters' metalllic surface, you'll notice the fastfall effect is still there. All other mode mixes work.
And if you're wondering what the Final Brawl mode is, it's basically a mode that allows your character to ALWAYS have the ability to release a Final Smash, without grabbing a Smash Ball; I'm assuming that the Final Smash isn't automatically and immediately used upon grabbing a Smash Ball, but that you release it yourself (based on the 'position yourself' comment in the Mario Finale update).
Soooo...whatcha think?
EDIT: Oh yeah, and Stock works the same as always, as does the other options by accessing the second page of screen 1 menus; if you're wondering why Stamina Mode isn't in Special Select, it's because I support the idea of changing it into a standard mode >_> Although if this idea actually happened, I'd prefer Staminda Mode being in Special Select, as you could then play Stamina Mode...WITH STOCKS!
New EDIT: I noticed just now I didn't clarify on what they should do with Camera Mode and Fixed Camera Mode; well, for the latter, I figured that the solution is of course that you could in fact have it in Special Select, but it would just have one on/off button that activates and deactivates it for every player. So...yeah. And Camera Mode would be it's own separate mode, perhaps under Data---> Special. It has a lot of potential on its own, and could be expanded a great deal.
New EDIT 2: I've been told there are technical reasons why different speeds at once simply wouldn't work, so it's one or nothing; the 1234 buttons for Lightning and Slo-Mo are released by On/Off button, and when one is turned on the other is turned off, and the opposing slider is disabled.
