Sorting out mains..

I like a lot of smash characters but I often have a tad trouble figuring out mains. It's because there's like, over 50 characters that I like so many but at the same time, I like to have a small number like everyone else.

Link is my main, Sonic/pit are my secondary,
Sheik/ryu/zelda/mac/palutena/falco/marth/roy/lucario are all characters I like to use just as much too.

Is there an easier way of sorting things out?

I'd suggest picking and getting a grip on that character first before you expand. In your case, focus on Link. Make Link a killing machine then progress to Sonic or Pit or whomever (if you change your mind).

Its like I use Fox. Until I make Fox as bloodhirsty as I can, I'm not going to switch to someone I could use like Pikachu until I reach that status.
Bottom line is, put in your 10,000 hours worth (supposedly this is the amount of time it takes to master anything) on a main then if you're still interested, progress to mastering a secondary or pocket.

That's just my suggestion. Its simplistic yet effective, but requires a bit of interactive elbow grease.

Go to a tournament (offline or online) and see who you naturally gravitate towards.

When you're pushed to your limits, you realise what works best.
