Sonic's Stage/Music

Alright, I know there's probably discussions of this elsewhere in Sonic's board (I saw one for stage near the bottom), but I figured I'd make a new topic for it.

First thing on the list is Stage. Obviously, the Sonic world is a sprawling universe with tons of worlds to explore. Personally, I think some pretty interesting ones that could possibly be in the game...

Green Hill
The most obvious one, as we saw it first. Structured like Battlefield, it would be a simple stage, with the occasional appearance of bees/rings/Eggman's machines in the background. It could also scroll horizontally like the 2D version, opposed to the vertical scroll of stages such as the Ice Climbers in SSBMelee, and DK's new stage in Brawl.

Westopolis
Alright, I know you're all thinking that putting a destroyed/apocalyptic stage into Brawl is probably not the best idea thanks to the Bridge of Eldin and Castle Siege, but if the players could move around through/between streets, I think this could be become a pretty fun stage. Falling debree and Black creatures, anyone?

Soleanna City Square
Though I actually HAVEN'T played "Sonic the Hedgehog" for 360/PS3 (I only own a N64, Gamecube, and Wii) but am hopefully going to nab it if it comes out for PC, I think that stage where the trailer takes place with Princess Elise performing the ritual involving Solaris would be an amazing and very dynamic stage to play on. You could even use the bowl where the flames appear as a platform.

Alright, so, some stage ideas down. But what about music? If anything is known about the Sonic franchise, it's that every game always comes bundled with a kickass soundtrack filled with lyricals players tend to cherish. So, with the new songs from Sonic the Hedgehog, what themes can we expect to see in Brawl?

My own opinions would be thus:

Live and Learn (we've heard this from the Sonic intro video, so that's a definite.)
Dreams of an Absolution (Yes, I know it's Silver's theme, but the remix tune is awesome.)
We Can (Team Sonic's theme from 'Sonic Heroes')
It Doesn't Matter (SA2B version; you have to admit, this song kicks major portions of arse.)
Green Zone Theme (for those classic players out there ;D.)
Open Your Heart (Sonic Adventure's opening would be an excellent battle song.)
His World (Sonic's theme from the new Sonic the Hedgehog game. It's alright, possible character theme.)

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter. What do you guys think?

no nothing from that god awful 360 game or shadow the hedgehog i say space colony ark green hill and chemical plant i agree with the songs exept the ones from the 360 game and think that the green hill theme and other first grassy stages from 2+3 should be orchestrated and so should chemical plant and i also think they should put sonics theme from SA2 otherwise pretty good

A 360 stage seems unlikely. Sakurai is leaning towards a less modern interperetation of Sonic, one that seems mostly centered between the Classic Sonic and the Adventure Series Sonic (My personal fave.). I think that the music, stage, items, charaters or ATs from the Sonic continuity would probably reflect that as well.

I'm still hoping for a fully-urban City Escape stage that moves between a basic platform stage with lots of running room and fast sidescrolling stage when the Truck shows up as a hazard.

And shouldn't this be in stage discussion with all the other Sonic stage threads?

You're right about the Absolution remix though.

am i the only person that liked the music from the city level of sonic adventure 2, hah?
No, that was actually one of the only two I liked from that game (the other being the main theme, "Live and Learn"). Its the only song of Sonic's I'm hoping to hear in Brawl.

On stages, we can do better for Green Hill Zone than being a simple battlefield-esque stage. Give it one of the loops Sonic was so famous for in the old days, with a classic-style item box or two up top that spawn random items and a spring at the base that poor jumpers use to get up top of it. And at least one multi-tier hill with a palm tree up top, perhaps also hiding an item box, definitely as a place for coconut-tossing monkey robots to spawn every so often.

I'd also prefer another of his zones to the recent stuff, especially Shadow/360/Secret Rings levels (with those, even I have to admit the quality of his games is falling). I'd favor:

Marble Zone (Underground ruins, crumbling pillars, catterkillers showing up ever now and then, spiked chandelier/platforms, and a magma pit... yeah, this is one of my favorites.)
Casino Night Zone (So many ways that could be worked - definitely would need to include one of the giant slot machines though.)
Ice Cap Zone (If it wouldn't seem redundant with the new Summit stage for the Ice Climbers.)
Launch Base Zone (So many mechanized Robotnik traps and robots to choose from for this, and definitely needs some oily ground.)

Oh, and one just has to have one his checkpoint poles. Not sure what it'd do other than look cool though - maybe as it swings around it damages foes that get near?

If we were to get an Adventures-era stage, I'd favor City Escape (scrolling) or Space Colony Ark.

I would personally want to see a stage that takes place in a room or outside of the Space Colony ARK. Maybe like the cannon control room or something. But I can't think of anything original that can be on the ARK, but still not be too random, so I don't know.

Check the other Sonic music threads (hell, theres one on this page) for all the music suggestions.

All the stage ideas I've seen or heard about, basically from the other stage threads, boil down to:

Green Hill Zone (almost a certainty)
Death Egg Zone
ARK Zone
Station Square
Metropolis Zone

A few people have had ideas about scrolling stages that scroll horizontally, to capture the length and true feeling of the Sonic levels.

the classic sonic games were by far! the best. sonic games have lost a lot of rep since sonic 3. The adventure series was good but since then its gone downhill for the blue hedgehog especially with the 360 game and the shadow spin-off we need sonic 2 music

Yes but I think there is some light for the blue hedgehog. Don't believe me? Just let me show you:

1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will be a plus for Mario & Sonic fans. Whether it not if it sucks it will get large piles of sales anyway. But I don't see this sucking anyway. Miyamoto is supervising it, and the Wii can handle these events with good controls. Hey it is not Brawl, but before you stab Mario with a Beam sword with Sonic or vice-versa. Stab them with a Judo sword!

2. This may be Minor, but Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity if done right could be a good experience. If they can get the controls right on the Wii.

3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl will defiently help in the long road. People that don't know much about Sonic. Like those 8-year olds that pick up Brawl because Mario is in it. And go "Who's that Blue hedgehog Mommy?" And "Mommy" might not even know unless she is a Teen parent >_>. And if they get interested enough. Look up the internet to see who he is, they will know he has games only for him. Thus, they will the new sonic fan will buy more Sonic games. Most likely ones for the Wii, DS, GC, and GBA. So it just adds up to more money for Sega.

4. BioWare is making along with Mass Effect, a Sonic RPG. That fans are actually excited for it. If it were any other ccompany. We'd be worrying our pants off. But because of BioWare's reputation, there isn't much worry.

And who knows? Maybe Sega will finally get Sonic back to his former glory. Maybe they will have a good Sonic game. With good controls, Camera angles fixed, and classic sound effects (Oh and not to mention the rebirth of Super Sonic while in Gameplay rather waiting till the end of the game to play as Super Sonic). Sonic is not going plummeting downhill. In fact, There may be reason to believe that Sonic may be going Uphill =O

your talking about spin-offs.
whens the last time that we had a solid adventure like sonic 2 the last sonic game i really enjoyed was sonic adventure 2 on my dc my point is that sonic has to away from the crappy new characters and spin-offs and focas on great gameplay with classic characters

Same thing with Mario then. All the spin-offs of sports & party games from Sunshine to Galaxy can get rather annoying. The only thing that strays away from that is New Super Mario Bros. Spin-offs outnumber canon Mario games by a margin of 3:1. But that what makes Mario appeal to casual gamers, and that is what Nintendo is appealing to. They are trying their best with Miis, Party games, and 3rd-party support to appeal to all types of gamers. And so far... It has worked. And I believe Sega wants it to work too.

Palmtree Panic (Japanese version).

It's like Green Hill and Emerald Hill rolled into one along with awesome Mario World-esque barbecue sauce.

Personally, I would LOVE to hear "Stardust Speedway - Good Future" from Sonic CD. But it would never happen...

Sonic's home stage should be from the classic Sonic games such as Green Hill but you can create it with the stage builder.

I don't see how Green Hill will not be in the game honestly.

If he gets anything though, I would prefer old-school. The 3D games are garbage.

and hell, maybe some of the guys at Sonic Team will play Brawl and be like "oh yeah, Sonic used to be good, didnt he? Silly us."

I think a great stage for Sonic would be Angel Island, complete with the Master Emerald's shrine in the background (and maybe even interacting with the shrine and it's ruins.) A floating island pretty much screams "Smash Bros" especially if it's a cool stage like this.

Maybe a stage based on the first level Sonic Adventure. Isn't that part with the orca iconic?

Fighting on the Tornado II would be cool, but that's already taken with Lylat Cruise.

Sonic Boom, the main theme of Sonic CD, would be pretty cool. I'd prefer Ocean Palace from Sonic Heroes or Silver's theme from Sonic 360 (I got that last one from a video. Yes, it is a bad game, but Yoshi's Story also has references in the Smash series)
