Well, not what I expected.

I really wanted his moves based on those in Sonic 3 with the sheilds, but thats a bit too much aint it?

It was...

B-Spin Dash: They pretty much just explained it!

B>-Fire Sheild (or something): Goes forward into a giant firball of flames( like Kirby's dash)

B^-Thunder Jump: Does an electrical jump! (The Thunder sheild!!!)

Bv-Water Bounce: Hits the ground with great speed and is boosted up( Hey? Why not?)

Not doing the Final becuase seriously....Thats just stupid suggesting it! (Hyper form....Wahh!!! We see enough Super already....and that was in Sonic 3!!!)

O well, Thank you for listening

Sonic's moves are awesome.

Sega let sonic be in Brawl with the condition of making him top tier it seems.
Or his natural stats and general gloriousness forces him to be top tier. Who knows?

lame i hate it they made him to strong:mad:
He does seem pretty good. He's fast, he combos well, and his attacks seem to have substantial knockback—basically, everything that a winning character needed in Melee.

Buuuuuuut, he's also probably rather light and hard to control. I can see myself doing several unintentional charged Spin Dashes of stage edges with him. And he seems like he'll be easily knocked around. This wasn't much of a problem in Melee when basically everyone got knocked around, but in Brawl, this will probably be much bigger issue for the lighter characters.

Plus, there's the fact that he hasn't really shown any kind of advantage with reach, nor a projectile move (not that I'd expect one from him), but that's not so problematic since he's so fast.

Anyway, basic gist of what I'm trying to say is: Let's wait to play the game before we decide who's "too strong". Everyone has their advantages.

Sweet update, but I'm thinking of weaknesses for Sonic's moves so I can beat him with Mario. Side-B can probably be beaten out by a D-smash, an F-smash, or any other of Mario's moves that have better priority if timed correctly. Sonic won't be as strong as Mario, but he'll definitely be faster. When it comes to doing his Up-B, Sonic looks like he's vulnerable as he's stuck in that state until after the front flip. I say you can punish him before the flip from there. As for spin dashing back to the stage, I believe that anything that has better priority like a well-timed nair or cape would do. In exchange for speed, Sonic will be a light character, as Nothing Rhymes with Circus has said before. Getting hit by an F-smash from Mario around 80-90% won't be nice for Sonic. Still, I want Sonic as one of my mains, anyways. :)

Has anyone seen the gameplay trailers?
It looks like he can still do moves after he uses his recovery move..
And I think Metaknight did the same thing too.

Ok... maybe it does mean you'll end up doing a spin dash after charging. I'm not so sure, the wording is confusing. But Sakurai DID say "pop". (Whatever "pop" means in this case.)

EDIT:
"Pop" as in "pop your opponents up into the air"?
"Pop" as in "pop up in the air"- you can't jump into the air with the Spin Charge- it seems to be more of a ground-based attack, while the Spin Dash seems to be more fit for aerial assaults and combos.

Ew, spring left behind? Meh, and since when does an up B act like a (higher) normal jump. This new smash game is weird.

I personnaly don't like the way Sonic is. He seemed like a limited character before and thats how he seems in the brawl.

well look at the beginning of the first sonic trailer you see him hitting 3 characters and litterally pop them up in the air instead of the usual streight forward hit.

Fits his character then, I guess.

Sonic's moves seem...very similar...and that's NO GOOD.

Seriously, I had a 20 minuted discussion with a friend about how the moves were different...and I lost.
What moves are you talking about exactly? Because the only moves that seem very similar are his sideB and downB. And depending upon how you interpret the wording in Sonic's special moves update, downB could just be a helping move for sideB, which would actually make them very different.

Somehow after Sonic's moves and his video were revealed I couldn't help but think that he'd be the highest tier character in the game. :ohwell:

Hmmm, people who tried he demo are saying that speed characters are over powered, but slow characters are overpowered too if they hit. Maybe thats the balance they contain? example: Metaknights multi slash attacks hit really fast and can deal damage quickly as for DK, its been seen that his down b can do more damage than the multi attacks.

Other example: Pits Multi Bow slash hits really fast but deals small amounts of damage as for bowser, his down b *which ive heard is the same* can deal the same amount of damage in one hit than in multiple hits. My point has been made with the balancing of characters

though maybe the speed the character moves *not attacks* might change. I heard the fastest now is sonic and meta. Before it was fox and sheik

There may be many spindash moves, but it could work... [-_-];;

I'll still run Sonic, no matter how repetative his moveset is!

As expected Sakurai is is following up on the HUGE announcement about the new third party character Sonic the Hedgehog. His new moves really emphasize Sakurai’s opinion about the game play of Sonic’s games.

<strong>Side Special Move: Spin Dash</strong>

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/sonic_071011a-l.jpg" alt="Sonic has a ball!" />

This move can be charged, which in turn will increase your spin. Along with this wonderful move, it is also to jump while in the midst of your Spin Dash to perform a combo.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/sonic_071011b-l.jpg" alt="Mario gets hit repetatedly by Sonic's ball." />

Definitely lends some insight into other characters, can they too combo the way Sonic can? This might also helps us understand Sakurai’s use for beginning aerial combat.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/sonic_071011c-l.jpg" alt="Sonic joins in the game of Mario Says" />

His move allows him to easily bounce back on stage. Can we say Sonic the Edgehog anyone?

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/sonic_071011d-l.jpg" alt="Sonic gives up" />

<strong>Down Special Move: Spin Charge</strong>

By holding the Control Stick down and tapping the special-move button, you charge up your spin and do a Spin Dash. This definitely brings back nostalgia.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/sonic_071011e-l.jpg" alt="Mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash mash and spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin" />

<strong>Up Special Move: Spring Jump</strong>

And his up special move is the Spring Jump. That spring launches you way up in the air.

(MicEdit: I called it!)

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/sonic_071011f-l.jpg" alt="Sonic decides to get high" />

Of course, if you do this on the ground, the spring will get left behind for others to jump on.

Darn it Mic, I liked your old one.

Anyways, lots of spindashes. If a projectile, its most likely a Ring Toss, since rings are important to Sonic... we'll have to see I guess..
