Sonic boards are doing a matchup discussion on Luigi!
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=5680651#5680651

Hm... I'm pretty sure everyone has some kind of idea of what this matchup is like.

The main problem is that those notions came from months ago.
In the light of the current metagame, does it still hold?
;]

If you wish to contribute, please keep these in mind:
- Please, please have matchup experience with a competent Sonic main before talking about what Sonic can or can't do.
- If you don't have much matchup experience with a Sonic main, but you see an incorrect an incorrect assumption on Luigi (especially concerning move usage), feel free to correct it.
- After meeting the first two criteria, try not to awaken the fanboys with flammable remarks, I will personally report both sides, because we've already had a matchup discussion fail to this.
- Information, especially on stage choice (advantages/disadvantages), would be well appreciated. :)

If you have NO idea what Sonic can or can't do, I'm sure you can state a request to play against a Sonic main there (or the Sonic chat room or the Sonic wifi challenge thread). Of course, remember it's wifi, and if you have a poor (yellow-orange or worse) connection, keep in mind that Sonic is very much of a 'punishment'/'reactive' character, so don't take match results too seriously.

Just use it to get a glimpse of each other's playstyles and/or find move-vs-move information.

Also, silly things to keep in mind, in case you get overwhelmed by Sonic vocab:
- Spinshot: a fast-moving (run speed) insta-doublejump done out of a side-B charge (grounded or aerial) or an aerial down-B charge.
- ASC: Aerial Spin Charge (Aerial down-B) - has properties of multiple hits based on velocity (11 damage max first hit, 7-10 damage on followup hits). Can be shield cancelled upon landing.
- Side-B: Side-B's grounded charge can be cancelled for feints. Upon release, it has invincibility frames, like Ike's Eruption Super Armor, but invincible.

Feel free to use any 'new' information gathered in your own matchup discussions later on.

my friend is a sonic main what i hate about him is his speed i find actually hard to shoryuken him even when he does laggy dairs his recovery is pretty good , but its kind of easy to gimp , mmm what else well spinshots tend to catch me off guard sometimes i find that my friend has a hard time killing ,i havent played him in a while when i play him again ill tell you how did it go. As a luigi i would counterpick sonic by using stages with platforms as a sonic FD works nice since you have a lot of room to dash around and you have that charged b ball glitch , the one that will hit the stage until you reach the other side etc... it actually saves him sometimes

I bet he sucks D:

Homing Stall shouldn't have to be used more than 1-2 times per match, especially offline.
And worse Sonic mains really tend to suck on platformed stages.

need more luigi mains!

Gaa I have so little experience with the matchup anything I say would make me look like an idiot. Sorry, I would love to contribute I just haven't played one decent, let alone good Sonic. Ever.

Nah that's okay King, you can still help.

There is a section for behaviour and commonly used moves. So this isn't particularly matchup based. Just letting us know how a Luigi behaves and what moves are spammed or used more often (strings/combos/setups) is just as helpful........................

luigi doenst have fancy metagames , we are jsut plain old school , n i like that. beware of fmash , if it up tilted im guessing a fresh one can ko sonic at about 90-100% oh and nair is the best revenge kill move in the game period , dont even try to avoid it, its stupid, its coming ,you know it, period end of story

Behaviour: Luigi will SHDAerial without end, and frankly, Sonic is poor at dealing with this. Use U-Air. A lot.

Commonly Used Moves: NAIRNAIRNAIRWAH!!!!! If you want me to be serious, Luigi will make good use of all his aerials, every tilt, his jabs(avoid plz), all his specials (Up B will be used less, harder to land on Sonic, side b is an excellent aerial combo finisher; it's unexpected and has a 1/8 chance of killing on the spot- I've been 0-deathed by the Luigi boards god, hippiedude, in this fashion) and his smashes are all very useful. For spacing, Luigi will use his F-Tilt and B-Air, and his N-Air will annoy the crap out of you. Up angled F-Smash has ridiculous speed; leave controls on default, hold up, and C-stick forward, for a result of WAHWAHWAH!! Point being, very little lag on either side.

How to Win: Luigi shuts out most of Sonic's air game, so use your U-Air a lot and space correctly. Avoid him at all costs when you're above 90%, even though his F-Smash kills a lot earlier than that. Don't get jabbed, you WILL be jab-d-tilt trip-SHORYUUUUUUKEN'd a lot, and if the Luigi does it fast enough, it is inescapable. Luigi also has many out of jab options, so be careful.

Recommended Stages: FD, because Luigi can auto sweetspot the ledge there; if they try, the Luigi will get stuck under the lip for a humiliating death. Luigi also sucks with no platforms and is more limited in almost every aspect. It's one of his worst stages, IIRC.

I hope I've helped.

Haha, hippie is the ONLINE god :D I would like to see him go to a tourney, and if he has already, I demand vids. Srsly. His knowledge of Luigi is over the top, but I would rather see it put into practice against good players =p

Err...may we please get back on topic...or better yet, can we at least go off-topic in the respective forum?

This thread is just an announcement to the Weegees, the ACTUAL Weegee matchup discussion is provided in the link. *grin*
