Something I don't get about amiibos

I've gotten smash wii u and trained an amiibo to level 50. It's fun as all holy hell, but I want to customize my amiibo. The only problem is that to do that, I have to feed it equipment. If I do that, will the amiibo have the custom stats on regular battles too, not just when customizations are ticked on? I don't want to always fight a Mario that can dish out 50% with a simple side-tilt, and the 1.5x damage would bring especially more pain to that.

I agree. Is there a way for an amiibo to give less damage, or just the normal amount of damage?

Feed it special items that give them special abilities, but lowers a stat by like 50 while upping a stat by like 7.

Such as explosive power shield.

So the custom stats last even if they're not turned on in the CSS?

I'd imagine so, since you're feeding them the stuff.
