Zelda, Link and Fox.

You will be known as that extremely boring-to-play-against guy.

If you get good

You will become the Dream Crusher.

Pikachu, Game & Watch, and Toon Link. It's gonna be difficult at first, but if you get good with them, you'll bring a breath of fresh air to the community. I think we'd all like to see one of these characters dominate the tournaments.

Actually, this thread brings up some interesting questions. Are your mains a good combination? That is, do they cover each other's weaknesses, or should you be learning another to fill in a gap? If so, which one? Would be very useful for people like me that don't know match ups very well.

I'll be the first to ask. My mains in order of proficient use are Captain Falcon, Sheik, Mewtwo and Marth. Is this good coverage? If we try to limit it to my top 3, what about then?

Hmmm, well... Falcon, Marth and Shiek are very close in style, but it still covers you for most advantages, but I'm not sure about Mewtwo.

Do the smash community a favor and play only characters that weren't top tier in Melee.

How is that doing the smash community a favor?
A lot of people stick to melee characters because that's what they know and that hinders the development of the metagame of brawl characters which actually have a lot of untapped potential.

Embrace your inner AGT and join the Tink side.
Be the Squirtle to crush their dreams with your disjoint.
Be Lucas so they can complain about the number of frames your grab is out. Proceed to never use it.

Ok so I have a real suggestion. I would say that you should do something like this:
1. Pick a high tier character that you will be able to use in a pinch for counter picking, e.g. Falco, Marth, Lucas
2. Pick a character that is just plain fun to play as, e.g. Falcon (the Knee yo), maybe Zard, or like, sonic
3. Pick someone who you don't have much experience in or that you are interested in learning.
That's what I did. I play Falco, Charizard, and Dorf/Ivysaur. Hope I helped!

I'd also like to piggyback on this thread - my first real main was Zard, then I recently picked up Samus (after discovering that she both is super fun and doesn't die as hard to chars like Lucas) - do these characters cover each other, and what might be a good third option? I've enjoyed Squirtle when trying him out, and played Mario for a while when I was originally trying to pick a main, but I'm also tempted to go with a melee top tier so that I could play melee with some proficiency if the opportunity arose. Thoughts?
