Someone explain to me how to combo my wavedashes into my normal gameplay.

So essentially lemme break it down for ya.

I see all these people doing these wavedashes in the midst of their combos and stuff (Can't name a video off the top of my head but you know what I mean), and I'm like "Dood I wanna do that too"

So I go and I learn the wavedash and waveland and stuff.

And I pretty much hit a roadblock.

I have no idea how I'm supposed to exactly use wavedashes in my combos, much less how to actually do them. Other than Ganon platform wavelands and ledge wavelands onto stage, I don't really understand what much else wavedashing is used for. I remember Ken saying once in a Melee Marth tutorial that you can like, wavedash OOS to get away, but that's literally the most "advanced" use of wavedashing that I know.

Now, as to who I'm trying to learn wavedashing combos for, I'd say GDorf, Marth, and Falco, mainly. However, if you have some general wavedashing tips for me, I'd be happy to hear it. And before anyone tells me to, yes I have played Luigi before, but I don't really think that he counts as wavedashing is pretty much his only form of movement, and as such his wavedash game is much different than everyone else's.

I'm like, 90% sure that the answer is right in front of me, but I just can't see it as of right now. So, I'd like some advice and help on how to use wavedashes in my normal gameplay as a combo tool.

for dorf, raw wd's don't do too much. you're going to want to learn wl out of shbair and uair.

use shbair-wl for a sort of poke and mix it in with your ac nairs. if you get the hit and the opponent isn't too damaged, wl towards and follow up (this is going to vary on di, percent, fall speed, etc... you'll just have to get used to it. ftilt is generally a good choice, for range coverage, but not always ideal).

shuair-wl is apparently really good for comboing fastfallers, especially at lower percents. you can do stuff like "throw (probably up) uair-wl-regrab/uair". i'm not consistent at all with shuair-wl, but others are and i'm just typing that out as a pseudoexample i was given.

One of the most simple examples that helped me grasp and explore wavedashing as a tool was this:

Marth F-smashes your shield at almost perfect spacing. The only way to punish him for that is to wavedash out of shield at him. Not only will no other option be fast enough to hit him before he can act, but because of how good the range on his Fsmash is, you wouldn't be close enough even if you, say, dropped your shield and grabbed.

On that note, playing AS Marth, he has a really good wavedash. Say you are shielding and you get outspaced, wavedash out of shield is your best option for getting in their face and punishing them also. You can do anything out of a wavedash so you can fsmash, grab, sideB, utilt, sh nair, shffl fair, short hop double fair, whatever the hell you want.

Another concept that helps is to understand that if you can act with a jump, you can wavedash ie jump cancelled things become better and more versatile because of wavedashing. You say you play Falco, just practice waveshining over and over and you'll start to see the application as you use it. It's just faster than any other option.
