I dont have a wii atm to test it, because my wii doesnt read brawl atm and I had to send it to nintendo.
I sometimes have the problem with Snake to come save back to the stage.

Example against Snake:
The opponent covers the edge with up smash and edgehog.
So I have to go up about the stage with up b.
Now if I want to come down I can simple airdodge or make an attack.
My opponent can just run to my landing position, shield if I attack and grab me, then he can throw me offstage again.

Now I thought about what to make against it.
You can pick a granade while fallin but then you cant airdodge and you are very punishable.
A good opponent can punish you without hitting the granade.

I tested to recover with granades before some time and it worked, but I didnt need it (c4 is better) and I had the problems, that the granads explode very late.
So why not using this to land safety.

How to perform?:
First you have to DI right, that you are over the heights of the stage.
Then pull out a granad, and throw it up about it.
Jump and pick it up with Z (or Airdodge, Attack, what you want).
Now you can use Up B to get above the stage.
Then you can just fall down.
You can Airdodge if your opponent attacks you.
If the granad explodes to early you can throw it down at the opponent.
If you timed it right you can land, (air dodge while doing it) and when you land the granad explodes and you can shield it.
I never saw a Snake using it, but I think it can be very good.

Oh, and maybe you can use it, if you are to far away from the stage (that your opponent can edgeguard you) and you already lied down a c4.

I allready tried the recovery thing and it worked, but it was very hard to do.
The safety land granade should be easier to do than using a granad to recover.

Another think I thought about but couldnt test, what is with holding a granade and make an attack to the right time.
You can block Snakes Up Smash with a well timed attack, why not the granades, too?
Cant you block the explosion with an attack, too? Maybe it hits the opponent then, but not you, dont know, cant test it atm.
Can any1 pls test this? ^^

So what you're saying is...

Waste your jump to catch a grenade, instead of just throwing the grenade at the stage without losing a jump? Conserving your jump is tantamount to recovering into the stage/edge without getting punished. Furthermore, against numerous characters that are great at gimping [such as Meta Knight] once you lose your jump you are going to die off the stage.

In regards to an attack out prioritizing a Grenade... It doesn't happen. Up Smash has a weak and a small hitbox which allow some attacks to break it without the character taking damage, while grenades have very big hitbox upon explosion, so regardless of the attack that 'breaks' it [unless it has invincibility frames] that target is going to take damage.

You have to DI well before you make that.
And you shouldnt use it against every characters.
You should use it against characters like the example, Snake, who mostly try to cover the edge and then hit you when you try to land safe at the stage.
And if you make it right you wont get hit, so that you dont need your jump anymore, because youn are touching the ground.
