well, i have been playing smash on and off
and i looked at the marth guide again
i have a lot of stuff down for marth

but how do you do the double fair?
does the opponent have to be in the air? and shoudl i use my DI for forward? i usually hit the ground before i land the second, should i not use directional influence?

i am also having trouble with my friend who uses luigi
i have trouble killing him before 100%

also how do you use a nair from the ledge?
i know you press down, or something to let go, and jump immediately. but whenever i try to do it, i always end up needing to b up to grab the ledge again or reach the land again.

also, how do you know when you have to dash forward and back for the chain throw up?

thanks for reading, please help me if you have the time.

I'm sure somewhere else in this room someone has answered the double fair question...but the opponent does not need to be in the air to use a double fair. Just jump, fair, and keep hitting A until you fair again. its a bit harder to do it with a shorthop, you just need to have fast fingers.
I think you have DI a bit misunderstood too. DI is when your opponent hits you, and you control where your character flies to an extent by pushing the control stick in the direction you want to move. For example, if you want to get out of a combo, usually you DI away.
As for Luigi, the easiest way to kill him is by edgeguarding. His over B is easy to edgeguard with a ftilt, fsmash, or down tilt if he grabs the ledge. Be careful though, as he may have a misstrike and his overB will send you flying.
I know exactly whats wrong with the Nair from edge. Either your not jumping fast enough after you let go of the edge, or your holding down to let go of the edge instead of just tapping it. When your on the edge, just tap down and immediately jump and use nair.
For chainthrow up, you know you have to dash forward and backward if the opponent DI's behind you. Think about it. If you throw your opponent up and they DI behind you, you can't turn around instantaneously to grab them. The quickest way is a quick dashdance to move forward and then turn around real quick. You will only need to do this if your opponent DI's backward, and they will only have time to DI backward if their percentage is high. For fox, usually around 30%.
It seems like your questions can be answered without creating a new post tho. IM me on eveofmorse if you have any other questions. I'm always online, so it should be easy to get a hold of me. hope that helps.

Well, to perform the SHDfair you shouldn't be mashing the button. As you short hop, the first fair should come out as you're rising. It'll be really hard to get out the second one if you button mash. You need to feel the rhythm. If you wanna practice it you can always just go into training and set the speed slower.
Something Jesiah missed about the ledgehopped nair is to be sure to DI forward as you jump, other wise you'll just nair to death for jumping onto nothing.

Edit: Forgot to add that you should be L canceling your second fair in order to chain them together. Well...you should always L cancel aerials anyways. =P

I found that for noobs button mashing to SHDFair works better than practicing the timing. After you button mash and get it a few times, hopefully that will help you with timing. But gongbomb is right...dont get used to mashing it. And DI forward only if you want to land back on the stage. Sometimes its better to fake the nair by not DI'ing and just falling back onto the edge.
