First, the good. Brawl will be the first Wii game that will be put on a dual layer Wii disc. That means the game will be close to 8,5GB in size.

The bad thing is that it won't be released in Europe untill April/May. I can't pinpoint it any better than that, although it will DEFINITELY NOT be released before April. We Europeans have to suffer as usual. :(

I wanna know too.

In any case, that would answer the question of how they'd fit all of that data in...

8.5 gigs isn't big.

Today's computers can hold around 150 Gigs. Then again, I dont know how much a standard wii disk can hold. I hope they fill it up, compress.

A standard can hold have of this much... so about 4 Gigs. Still... this seems a little fishy... I'll wait till a source... that's NOT that guy that knows Sakurai's uncle would knows what he ate last night.

8.5 gigs? meh, my comp can fit many times that amount.
I'm sorry that doesn't impress you. You do realize that 8.5GB is the maximum capacity for a DVD on a single side? Also, SSBM fit onto a 1.5GB disc. The fact that SSBB will max out the capacity of the DVD and is more than 5 times as big as Melee is fairly significant.

Although, from what it looks like, it's probably mostly just going to be prerendered Subspace Emissary cut scenes...

If this is true that's awesome. Also if you have an inside source can you tell us any characters that YOU think will be in Brawl, not what your source told you. WINK WINK!

The only thing that takes up space mostly is Movie scenes, or CGI.

I used to back up PSP ISO's, and when I extrated it's data, the ISO had seperate folders. The ISO was around 1 GIG.I deleted the entire CGI/Movie folder, and it was down to about 700 MB.

Each CGI scene can take anywhere from 20 MB to 100 MB. Considering there will be alot of CGI scenes in brawl, maybe around 50, it adds up.

WHAT

Hate to tell you, but that statement is... a bit... silly. My computer currently has 750 GB of internal storage, and that's only about 1/4 of the max it can hold. 8.5 GB would be very unimpressive for a hard disk drive, but we're talking about a game disc, and 8.5 GB is a standard double layer disc. As others have mentioned, IF Brawl does indeed occupy 8.5 GB (and at this point, I wouldn't really be too surprised), it would be an impressive feat.

Holy 750 GB?

Didn't know they were made to have that much. Then again, one guy did say he had 1 trilobyte of porn, so I guess so.x_x

Wow... It amazes me that people are actually comparing 8.5 Gigs to their hard drives, which is a completely different media format used for a completely different purpose.

8.5 Gigabytes is impressive. Granted, a lot of it will be filled with higher res textures and higher quality sound than Melee had, but it still leaves enough room to have a lot of the new things Brawl has given us so far.

This doesn't mean will have two hundred characters or something far fetched like that.

This is one of those things. You could doubt this information, but, why? I don't see why anyone would lie about this, though I dont even know if the wii can read double-sided discs.

well my bad i meant terrabyte. dunno where I got trilo from.

1000 GIGS= 1 terrabyte.

I assume it was full of hentai games and 1 gig movies. but that's going off topic/

What's with all the porn discussion? Anyway, 8.5 gigs is HUGE for a game disk, at least with what I know... comparing the size of the disk with your computer is stupid though. I've got like, a gig and a half of music on mine, and it's like a third of my space XP

Oro? Go thirty gigs of music FTW!

Still, I'll look for some info on this. If it's true, that'd be awesome... well, cept for the Aussies and Brits who have to wait forever.

Why is everyone comparing the memory capacity of a dual layer disc to the internal hard drive of a computer? Of course a computer's internal hard drive is capable of holding more memory than a disc, there's no question about that. Why not instead, let us compare the memory capacity between a dual layer disc and a different type of standard disc. Aside from all that, and if your sources are correct, the thought of 8.5 GB of Brawl is quite impressive on Nintendo's part.

On a side note, does anyone know the memory capacity of a regular Wii game?

How about a real comparison.... Two worlds, a very recent PC game was about 7 gigs installed, the game is like oblivion, but with a bit bigger world/same graphics. Brawl is *topping* that, granted yeah a signifigant portion would be pre-rendered cgi/cutscene stuff, but that's a huge amount of data for a fighting game that is mostly comprised of simplistic design stages that function on a single plane, characters that do the same, scrolling looping backgrounds, and alot of other things that really don't take up much space at all. Quite impressive, we're getting the full package on this one.
