Some character guesses

Dr. Mario is out, one newcomer will replace him, I also believe Mario Series will get one more character.
Paper Mario is very likely to be in. It would be another Mario (replacing Dr. Mario), and would'nt be a clone.
Bowser Jr. is also a good runner up, I really thing there will be at least one more villain on Mario Series, he would fit well the game.
Now, about Geno. He is very popular, on Sakurai's Poll he got as much votes as Ike, Diddy Kong and Ridley. If he can be considered a Mario character, he will be in, for sure. If he must be considered a third party character, he is out, sadly but truth.
Other characters like Dimentio, Count Bleck and many others could be in, but I don't believe they will.

My picks: Geno is my first pick, not sure if Mario Series will really have 2 newcomers, but if it have, Bowser Jr. is my second pick.

Ganondorf is back, no doubt of it, he will most likely getting redesigned, but will be in the game. Now, some possibilities:
Young Link can be on Brawl, but only as WW Link or MM Link, not as Link's clone.
Midna/Wolf Link have great chances too, is a popular character and would be quite original.
Sheik is in, though, can be part of Zelda or can not. It is hard to say what will happen do Sheik, but I think the odds of being part of Zelda are higher.
If one of the newcomers is a villain, Vaati, for sure.
Tingle is NOT in, Tingle can only be in as a Baloon Fighter alternative costume, but not as a Zelda Series representative.

My Picks: WW Link and Midna (with Sheik being part of Zelda)

Mewtwo comes back, there is no good reason to take him out, may be redesigned to be a little better, but will be in the game no matter what. Jigglupuff probably returns too, no reason for no being in.
Now, about the newcomer. There is one problem, all the other of Pokémon Series are from 1st generation. So the newcomer will be from one of the other generations, but only one of them (ok... this is obvious) so, even Lucario being quite popular, there are odds that the newcomer comes from other generation. I think it would be something like this:
2nd generation: lots of possibilities, I won't even name one beacuse I think it is very unprobable that the newcomer is here
3rd generation: Blaziken, he was one of the most popular on Ruby/Sapphire and fits very well the game
4th generation: Lucario, I think is the coolest and most popular

Well, I see most of the clones getting out of Brawl, Falco though was too cool in Melee to not be in Brawl. Maybe he gets some different moves, but will be in this game.
Now, about the newcomer. It is Krystal, the only question is if it will be Star Fox Adventure's Krystal of Assault's Krystal. Wolf IS NOT in this game, Fox's alternative costume means "Sorry, Wolf is not in, but you can imagine you're playing with Wolf with this costume".
SFAdventure's Krystal is more likely to be in, with the staff her gameplay would be unique and fit really well the game.

The newcomer is Ridley or a hunter. Ridley IS in the game. I would say Ridley have 90% chances of being playable and 10% of being just a boss. About the hunters, MP3 hunters are WAY cooler, though, who played the game knows what happens to them. So, the most likely hunter would be Sylux, but I really believe Ridley is the one coming.
I don't see Dark Samus as a good newcomer, it would be too much similar to Samus, and, again, Ridley has the upper hand.

Donkey Kong Series:

Pretty simple here, the only one who has chances is K. Rool. He can be playable or a boss, but he is in Brawl anyway. If it is a Boss, too bad for you DK series, no newcomer for you. But the odds of K. Rool being playble are quite high.

I see no reasons to keep Roy in the game, Marth back is just enough. Now, we have three possibilities.
Micaiah, from Radiant Dawn, would add a female character and non-sword user (enough of them...).
Sothe can be a good pick too, he is agile, stealthy and way cool. In fact, I have nothing against him, I just think Micaiah is more likely to be in beacause she is more important on the FE game.
Sigurd was on Sakurai's Poll, but, seriously, we don't need ANOTHER sword user here.
Black Knight would be REALLY cool in this game, but I see him only as a SSE boss

F-Zero Series
Captain Falcon

I know most of you will stop reading here and post something like "Missed Black Shadow, you fail". But I really don't think F-Zero will get another character. Samurai Goroh was the most likely to be in, but came as just an assist trophie. Anyway, C. Falcon is surely back, probably as a secret character, like he was on SSB64.

My pick: No one, sorry =/

Now is the difficult part: Ness. He was suposed to be out on Melee, but not being removed on Melee made him quite popular, I mean, not VERY popular, but I see no reason for Ness not coming back. In fact, I think only clones are getting cut (Ness wasn't a clone on Melee, Lucas doesn't count). The most likely is that Ness is going back to secret characters, like C. Falcon.
If Ness gets kicked out of Brawl, so Masked Boy may shows up as a newcomer.

In order to speculate about characters, lets speculate about the Thirdies themselves. Those with bigger chances of having a character on Bawl are: Capcom, Square, Namco,Ubisoft and Hudson. My pick for each of them would be:
Capcom = Megaman
Square = Sora (Cloud maybe, but no Geno here)
Namco = Pacman (he is the most popular, but a Soul Calibur character woul be much cooler)
Ubisoft = Rayman
Hudson = Bobmerman
I am a Rayman fan, so I really like to see him in, but seems like Megaman has the upper hand here, though, it is possible thaht Sakurai puts 4 thirdy character instead of 3, so the others may still have a chance.

My pick: Capcom (Megaman), if two of them are coming, my second pick is Ubisoft (Rayman)

Anyway, there are TONS of Mario character's that can be in this game, so is really hard to make a good guess.

Okay, what is up with all of these people who think CF and Ness would become secret characters again? There were more than likely made default characters in Melee for a reason (that reason being that they were the main characters/faces of their franchises, so it'd make sense for them to receive starring positions in the game), so making them secret again would defeat the purpose of that - especially in CF's case, seeing as how he'll probably end up being the only representative from F-Zero (meaning that F-Zero would receive no default character representation in Brawl).

If the two return, they will return as starting characters - just as they were in Melee.

Actually, BF was never supposed to be in Melee. He was considered, yes, but the Ice Climbers were chosen over him (and a few other retro characters that were considered by Sakurai).

Regardless, I don't have a problem with this prediction itself, just the reasoning used for it. BF is actually a character I think would be quite fun and interesting to use if designed properly, and as such, I'd like to see him in Brawl as a playable character.

If Yoshi could be counted as his own series, I think Kamek would have potential to be a playable character. He has weapons and abilites and whatnot (also a pretty well developed personality, more so than other characters), and in argument that he should just be an AT, his Toadies (right?) could be the AT instead, grabbing people and carrying them upward and off the stage unless enough struggling is done.

Just a suggestion for your "other" area.

I don't think Mario will get more than five reps, I don't think ANY franchise will get more than five. Mario will more than likely get Bowser Jr, because Geno is owned by Square.

I disagree on Zelda series as well. Sheik will probably be back due to popularity. If not, it will get a replacement rep there and that's it. I don't see it having five reps. WW Link is a no chance. Minda, maybe, although I really don't support her and expect to see Sheik back.

Agree on Kirby series.

Pokemon *MIGHT* get five reps, but it's not really all that likely. I don't think Lucario will get in unless Mewtwo is out though. Pokemon Trainer probably replaced Pichu, and Jigglypuff will be back.

Meh on Starfox. Krystal is probably in, and Wolf very well could replace Falco. We have had confirmation that the color change does not equal Wolf from Gimpy. He said it's just Fox. Wolf is unlikely, but he still could replace Falco.

Ridley is the most likely newcomer from Metroid, but Dark Samus is easily the second best. Anyone who says Dark Samus would be a Samus clone/too similar/is the same character has clearly not played Metroid Prime (any of them).

Donkey Kong might see K. Rool. It's up in the air... but possible. DK and Diddy might be the only reps, just have to see.

Fire Emblem does deserve a third rep, IMO. Micaiah is probably the best bet if they go for a newer character. I agree with most of that, but there is a good chance that FE will only have two reps.

F-Zero could definitely see Falcon as it's only rep, Black Shadow is really the only character worthy of a playable spot. He has a shot, although it's really slim.

Disagree on Ness, he has pretty much been confirmed to be out. He was not even supposed to be in Melee. I think Claus has the best chance at a second Mother rep, if it gets a second rep.

Not much to say on the rest since they are so vague, your choices have good chances although there are others I would rather see. And Mega Man is pretty much in if there is another third party character.
