With all the recent celebrity deaths, all that's been on TV, and even all over the internet, is talk about these deaths. With that being said, you think society worships musicians, actors, athletes, etc. a little too much?

I think it's ridiculous how much this is all being covered, and even more ridiculous is the lack of respect and privacy to the families of the deceased. Sure, its the right of the world to know what happened, but not to discuss about it on every news channel, 24/7, and to constantly bug the families about it.

Thoughts?

And as a little conversation, I wanted to bring this up.
(I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANY OF THIS!)

A lot of wack jobs conspiracists think that all these deaths of idols think its a sign of the apocalypse, citing the first and second amendment:

The First Commandment "I Am the Lord your God…..you shall have no other gods before me."

The Second Commandment "You shall make no graven image or any likeness of anything in heaven or earth, nor bow down to any such thing."

I seriously doubt this is a sign of the apocalypse, just a crappy couple of weeks although I do believe they are spending too much time covering their (mostly Michael jackson's) deaths in the news when there are other things going on in the world that deserve our attention.

Michael Jackson was not hard for me at all. Billy Mays dying, however, was.

Sometimes I wish somebody else would die so we can get rid of all this hypocritical Michael Jackson coverage that seemed to suddenly spur admiration from previous berating insulters.

Why do I think Christopher Walken is next...

It's not the apocalypse.
We've got 3 1/2 years to go till December 2012, which is when I heard things are supposed to go down.

Anyway, yeah, it's a bit much, but then again, these people affect the lives of tons of people. Millions of people know their names. Michael Jackson's probably had a billion listeners at least. That's a colossal influence, even if it is just for music. And when they die, it does affect people. Just because you (not necessarily you, just hypothetical) think the people on TV crying at Neverland, or at MJ's childhood home care too much doesn't make their pain and loss any less. These people feel a strong emotional attachment to MJ, even if they never saw more than video of him. Add in that he was so mysterious, and people are drawn by their curiosity to ask for answers now.

It does bother me that the press, which treated Michael Jackson pretty terribly for as long as I can remember, is suddenly being nice when they should have been nice while he was alive. He was acquitted, but was treated as guilty before and after the trial by a lot of people.

Hopefully McNair will get some of the MJ coverage to go away.

Oh, and Michael Jackson's trial was a joke, remember how OJ didn't murder his wife? Same scenario.

If that was the case god would've killed chuck norris along time ago.
Good show good show sir.

I actually find the obsession with celebrities quite sickening, but pictures and news pay well.

I see nothing wrong with being sad someone famous died(kinda. I don't get it. I never knew the person). But the OBSESSION part where these people and their families have no private life is sad. Once a celebrity female turns 18 EVERYONE is just WAITING to get a nudity slip. The paparazzi is just poised for that. Or any other manner of bad behaviour or omg who is dating who? I sometimes seriously feel nauseous thinking about this. Whatever, people want to feel better and see more successful people bite it or whatever the ****.

Well I didn't mean to rant there but there you go.

I have no issue with people having certain celebrity idols: if people want to mourn Michael Jackson and worship him for his music and dancing I have no issue. I tend to look up to my favourite musicians more than most people do.

But I do have issue when people worship celebrities who have done nothing to deserve their fame: reality tv stars, people who sell their funerals and weddings to gossip magazines and who ***** themselves to the press. Appreciate someone with a talent or some redeeming quality.

There's nothing wroing with worshipping idols

I sacrifice a live Ox to Ken Hoang every sunday. When the offering pleases Ken I get a little better at smash... and surviving in the wilderness.

"I like Christ, for he is peaceful.

Why must Christians be so unlike Christ?"

Somebody said SOMETHING along the lines of that. But yeah, if this whole Ten Commandments thing is gonna follow through, then the next one should be:

"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain."

So... is the mute population going to skyrocket now?

I believe the quote you're thinking of is: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ," which was said by Ghandi.

As for this whole idol worship topic, I've ALWAYS thought it was ridiculous that celebrities and pro athletes make more money than doctors or scientists. Still, the media does what makes them money. If they're providing all this coverage, it's because clearly some people must care.

Here is how pathetic this has become.

"Jackson-Lee’s bill proposes a “tribute to an American legend and musical icon,” Michael Jackson. For some reason it was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs."

That's right...

I think that it's getting out of control by now. It's starting to get annoying to see nothing but stuff about Jackson dying on every single news channel... All the time.

confirmed. Sending Supplies.
I honestly believe that many people worship and bow down to celebrities while denying it - even Christians that are strongly against it, or say they say they are. Seriously, celebrities are the stupidest people to follow and look up to.

I agree, almost a week after MJs death there are still film clip tributes and speculation on T.V.

There are athletes and coaches that aren't even the best in their fields that are paid millions. Top soccer players are paid $29.5 million

While Australia's Prime Minister is only paid $350,000 annually.
