im relatively new to rpgs and i want to start getting into a series but i have this really big problem. there are so many series and games that i dont know where to start. i cant seem to stick to one game. i have a hard time committing and finishing games that i start. is it normal to play multiple rpgs at the same time? is it worth it to play the entire final fantasy series from start to finish? ive gotten through the first one but i keep discovering other games like chrono trigger, tales of symphonia, and many more that stray me away from progressing at my final fantasy campaign and i really want to play 7+8 but im afraid it will take me too long to get there. i dont really want to skip all the other ff games but i have no idea what to do now. so many games to choose from...

Play FF1, 3, 4, 6 - 9, and 10. These are usually what I hear people call the best Final Fantasy's. You've already played the first, so you already have one done. I personally dislike 3 and 7 quite a bit, but you might enjoy them.

Of course, if I just hear what the best Final Fantasy's are from weird people, somebody feel free to come in and correct me.

They can be broken down into four eras:
- Retro (1-6)
- PS1 (7-9)
- Modern (10-12)
- Future (13-14+)

The best of Retro is 6. The best of PS1 is arguably 7 (although I often prefer 8 or 9). The best of Modern is 10.

So if you want the best, summarized Final Fantasy experience, I'd go with 6, 7, and 10. A good alternative would be 6, 9, 10 because you get the classic, medieval-fantasy experience out of 9, despite it being a 3D title. Of course, if you want my personal opinion, the absolute best Final Fantasy experience would be 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12.

skyler, when you say 3, do you mean the ds version or the nes one?

They're different. The Final Fantasy III that Americans played was actually Final Fantasy VI (the best one!).

So, assume that these go by the Japanese numbering system. The DS remakes go by the Japanese numberings.
