If I remember correctly
In melee, I could see how well a player did against another player in particular in the same way that most matchup charts are aligned. In brawl we can see this data for characters, but not for players.
Sadness abounds

I noticed this when I wanted to check after a long day of smashing with someone new how well I did against them. I was like "we went even" but being able to see personal matchup charts would be cool and accurate.

(especially if you could go hella in depth with them. Leelue vs GuruKid is nice and all, but LeelueSnake vs GuruDiddy is where the real meaningful data lies).

Or how well characters/players do on stages. Anything like this. I would be elated.

Data is yummy. Just ask Overswarm.

What really sucks is that P:M still has the data for Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard grouped as Pokemon Trainer, which is basically all of their data combined. So when I look to see data, I see Red has the most usage, KOs, matches won, etc. It's probably beyond Magus' abilities, but it'd be nice to see how well my Charizard specifically does separate from his other starter buddies.

Messing with this in any significant way can hurt save files. Back when codes were being made to separate the Pokes, spunit (I think?) ran into several issues with the first iteration of the code. The game always tries to save the character's data after every match; so when it tried to save Charizard's KOs, etc from a match (and you were using a name tag at the time) it would write the data somewhere else because the character (in this case, Charizard) didn't exist in the Records memory area or w.e And in most cases, it would write it to the name tag you used (which in turn glitched it up).

It could probably do more harm than that, as well, but I don't remember. But the basic fact is, trying to "separate" them into their own records would probably really screw with save files.

But that's just me assuming things. I don't actually know.

When I came to this topic, I expected a request to add in every "record" as in song by default. I was dissapointed :(.

Hmm.. this topic really interests me. I'd actually love to see some data compiled together to see how well a specific players characters fare against others. I could compile some data for you from some students at my university who play smash 24/7. Unless you only want players from here on the boards.

I'll compile some records from the students down to very core specifics, i.e (Player: character, stocks remaining, etc. all that good stuff). I'll also be very glad to fetch that data the game keeps for ya, anything for precious data.
Hopefully if I'm lucky I can snag some data from KDJ even though he's retired, but still whoops everyone at my university smash.

You do seem to misunderstand what I mean by the "game's data"
You know how the game keeps track of a character's records? Even their character-v-character records? I was hoping that there'd be some way to see more in depth record keeping from the game itself.

Ah now I understand. That actually would be pretty amazing. *sigh* only if that was possible to see again.. I'll still get that custom player data from my school for ya though, it'll take some time but I'll get it.
