It was fairly obvious to me that there'd be at least one Sonic assist trophy in the game (please let it be Knuckles). Painfully so. I can't fathom for the life of me how people might have thought that there was little chance of the represented third party characters and their respective franchises getting an assist trophy or two. But yes, Gray Fox as an assist trophy does indeed marginally confirm my beliefs.

If Tails gets watered down with his walker again (or some other invention) it'd be a tragedy. A spit in the face to old school Tails. I mean, his inventions are neat, and they're certainly part of his character, but they don't define him. It would make much more sense for him to be some sort of rescue AT (saves you if you're flying a far distance, or may act as a one-time 4th jump (unless you're using Meta Knight or Kirby or something, in which case it would be 6th or 7th).

I read that as an idea for Tails a while ago on this board and loved it. So. . . give someone else the credit.

And I wouldn't say Gray Fox's confirmation is a Sonic AT confirmation. It's certainly logical to think that Sonic is owed an AT rep now, but it's not a confirmation. People throw that word around too much.

Let us not forget, Knuckles is almost as old as Tails is, so I wouldn't say it's just 14 yr olds who are Knuckles fans.

I'm definitely thinking a Tails assist, but I don't think rescue does him justice. Maybe he gives you complete flight, or helps in battle by following you around and giving out extra hits.

A Knuckles Trophy would be interesting, but Knuckle Joe has taken the idea I had outright for Knuckles. A Hyper/Super Knuckles (I can't remember which it was) Sonic 3 style ground pound, knocking everyone up into the air, might be interesting.

An interesting idea would be if Sakurai, unable to choose, had a Tails and Knuckles all in one assist trophy.

An Eggman one would be interesting as well. He could come out in one of several random inventions, like the Drill thing, the Ball on a chain, The Fire-Blasting thing that was the first boss from Sonic 3, the Egg-Viper, etc, or maybe something new...

Looking at it, Tails giving you a limited time full-flight ability would be pretty cool, and a nice look back on the old Sonic games, in which Sonic could grab onto tails and fly to higher, farther platforms.

As for Shadow, the reason I'm so firm in saying no is that he isn't one of the classics, and for all we know the stopwatch shown in the items update could revolve around the same idea as Chaos Control. So it wouldn't be very original, and as I said, he isn't one of the old, "main" characters, persay. Tails or Knuckles stand and deserve a much better chance than Shadow.

Of course, that may just be me. Apparently, from my experience with stating opinions, everything anyone says is considered a pompously self-proclaimed fact and that person is deemed a dim bulb, even if they were just giving their two cents.

obviously, tails is gonna be the 1st choice for an assist thropy, let it be a lame attack. remember that Blastoise's hydro pump is not very dissimilar to the laser gun that shoots green stuff - pokeballs and assist thropies aren't always the peak of creativity- . So, probably the choice for tails, is gonna be some sort of homing striker, that or his spinning attack from sonic adventure1.

but shadow, with chaos control, or chaos spear, that would be a great and easy option.

Honestly, as a character in both design and personality, I just largely prefer Knuckles over Tails. Sure, Tails came first, which is why he'll likely be the first one up in terms of Sonic-themed assist trophy eligibility, but Knuckles makes a much better character over all, and there's really nothing stopping Sakurai from adding Knux as an assist trophy in addition to Tails. I don't hate Tails, even though I always played as Sonic when playing Sonic 2 and 3, it's just that Knuckles is better than him in almost every way.

Brawl needs more Turbo Tails. If they're going to make Tails an AT that does damage, that's the only way i see it being done. Knuckles makes more sense as far as attacking goes, but Tails still deserves it more. Please don't give him that stupid plane walker thing. Whatever it was called. I never thought I could hate Tails until i played his levels in Sonic Adventure 2. Anyways, I'm starting to get off topic. It should either be Tails or Dr. Robotnik. Oh, and obviously..NO Shadow. He needs to be swept under a rug and forgotten about completely.

Well, we all know that at least a fair few of the important Sonic folks--at least the Olympic roster--will at least get a normal trophy, meaning Shads, Knux, Tails, Eggy, Amy, etc. At LEAST someone like Silver to promote the new stuff...
Personally, I'd like Tails to be playable--hey, if Sonic gets his own SE stage and Tails was playable, perfect classic S&T action, complete with ressurecting/p1-jumptoing!--but a good AT would make me feel better.
Hmmm...speaking of the slowpoke, Silver may be good as an AT; TK hold everyone for free hits, or toss them all away! Or chuck iron crates at em. X3

When Sakurai said assist trophies were to show representation for characters and franchises that didn't make it that Sonic's assist trophy was confirmed. Knuckles please. Tails used to be my other favorite until they went and made him a baby in Sonic heroes (wtf was up with that...).

I know. Sonic Heroes ruined Tails.
But I hate the game, not the character.
Tails is still prefectly fine in other, somewhat older games like SA2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (That one on Sega Genesis where Tails can be you main char?).
I may be wrong on this, but Sonic Riders also captured his character pretty well for a racing game with a surprisingly short Adventure mode. Brave, good with machines and the like, and always doing his best to help his friends out.
