So how is mario

Well first i am shocked at how unactive the Mario section is. So how is mario in brawl? Better or worse? Didn't play him in melee but seem a bit better in brawl.

he's quick on the ground, he's good in the air...I take that back; he's great in the air, all of his smashes are good, his jab combo is reliable, fireballs are spammable (but not dominatingly cheap) his up B can K.O. (high %) and some of the best strategies are shut down by the one and only CAPE. the only things he's lacking, IMO are recovery (not bad, but could be better) & long range (you gotta move around a lot to play Mario effectively)

many people associate the term "all-around" with the word "average", but in reality, it means extremely versatile. the biggest reason I play Mario is that he has an answer to practically every strategy or situation. you just have to put in the work and make the right decisions, but Mario has the moveset needed to react quickly

I think Distroia has a pretty good description of Mario. I think now since he can't wavedash/chain throw he is slightly weaker in that area, and he now moves really fast in the air, as opposed to in melee, where he moved really slow. He has really good tilt combos in brawl. His smashes are still really good. His recovery isn't great, the cape got nerfed, and the up+b move has issues if your back is to the ledge. His moveset has awesome speed, you can do one move literally right after the other, for example any move than a dsmash or upb. His fireballs are still really good, etc. So, besides his recovery he is pretty solid. I think he will remain in the top 15 characters, if a reliable tier list is ever constructed.

Mario is above average IMO. Probably on the high tier this time around.

He has one of the best sets of ledgeguarding strategies in the game. He is very lagless overall in most of his attacks. His recovery actually is MUCH better because of the floaty physics which enable him to throw more Fireballs and because his Up-B is significantly less punishable. His range in several attacks is increased, and seriously, Fireballs are so much better in Brawl because you can follow them a lot more easily and you suffer less lag from them because they fire faster and because of floaty physics.

The Cape wasn't noticeably nerfed actually. While you may argue that people can grab ledges from behind, the Cape actually helps push people away from the ledge so that they can't reach it. It does no stun, so yeah. Combine that with a well aimed FLUDD, Mario can ledgeguard a lot of people pretty effectively.

The only problem with Mario is he still lacks in range (HIS GRAB RANGE STILL SUCKS) and raw KO power.

Mario's better in this one then in melee by far. I agree with dist0ria, except for the recovery. Mario's recovery is so much better in this game. It's not ROB, but its impressive and can nullify edgehoggers. d:

edit: Epic agree, A2. I hate being outranged by the swordsmen.

Marios fair is much more effective as an attack, way quicker to recover from, stronger against airborne enemies, and it pretty much merged attack from both mario and docs fairs from melee together (depending on which part of the animation, fist up=docs fair, fist down=marios fair). I need to post up my replay, but imagine this combo. Fireball spam, then multiple short hopped bairs on an opponent, opponent is off the stage, Mario runs off the edge and does a cape gluiding tech, which flings mario off the edge, then to a fair as of docs hit, mario uses his second jump and finishes off the opponent with his regular fair meteor smash. OMG, mario is a freaking ninja pimp in this game!!!

couldn't have said it better myself. BTW, the Mario Tornado is freaking useful again compared to how weak it was in melee, you can't rise with it any more, but the priority is freaking insane and DIing with it with jumps is useful. Even the almost useless dtilt from melee is better for combos now. Try dtilt to short hop fair or dair on opponents when their damage is at least over 50 or 60.. freaking sexy.

so how is mario u ask???? if incorporate your mind into your gameplay....at the same time while having fun...then mario is a beast with a hat......BTW my favorite taunt is his side taunt were he takes off his hat and bows to his opponent...hahahaha i love that i wish i had it as a sig..

ya, and its quick too so you can piss off your opponent and get away with it easily. Mario's d-taunt is good too. The d-taunt comes from the old Donkey Kong game that made Mario famous. For those who don't know, whenever Mario died, he'd die like you used his d-taunt. IMO his d-taunt means that "you're gonna die" or "haha, you died lol."
