So, does your local music scene suck as much as mine does?

How is your local music scene? I play in a metal band in Houston and all I can say is Houston sucks for metal... and everything else except rap...

Memphis, Tennessee. 'nough said, really.

I could get in fights for hours with people from STL and New Orleans over "the home of the blues." And then theres Elvis. And then theres Saliva! And the local band scene is humongous, I love it. Local musicians, blues, rock... guys from Nashville...

Reverend Al Green.

Classical music thrives as well, with the multiple orchestras and youth symphonies. And there is the Orpheum for plays and musicals and operas.

The skate park of memphis has a LOT of local bands play, to show off talent, etc. A lot of good rock bands like Egypt Central.

And then... theres 3 Six Mafia, Project Pat, and all the famous rappers.

edit: i left SO MUCH OUT. Isaac Hayes, B.B. King, Johnny Cash, Sun Studios, the Stax Museum, Booker T and the MGs, Arethra Franklin, dont forget W.C. Handy...

Naples, FL.

I play in a band (alt-rockish) and we've played at a couple places, but this isn't really the exact best place for that kind of thing. Naples is full of old people (last time I checked Pop.Distribution, I believe it was 71% seniors? O.o), so you don't get many people around your own age or under their 50s to check out your sound. Continuing on the local scene, we have a relatively famous swing band that travels around the state that originates from here. They, naturally, frequently stop to play and reside here. Pretty bad stuff...

Regarding the radio, it's full of classic, oldies, country, news, and talk show stations. Old people think all of us young people like rap apparently so we have about 3 rap/hip-hop stations. We have one rock station :(

Overall, not so good.
