So are we going to see every secret before release?

All these characters can't possibly be starters. I'm sure there will be unlockable characters for tradition's sake but I'm beginning to think that Sakurai is going to tell us who they are before launch. Son of a *****!

Then again, besides Pokemon Trainer and maybe King Dedede these characters are all what you'd expect to see on any amateur's prediction list. Not exactly huge surprises. Maybe he's got some extremely outlandish characters that he won't reveal until after the Japanese launch. But I wonder how many more characters can possibly be in the game with already 22 announced, not including several veterans that are all but certain.

By the by, don't let the post count fool you, because I can now proudly say I am officially anticipating Brawl at unhealthy levels. I had a dream that I bought a copy at the store, and as soon as I woke up my first thought was to go to the living room to play Brawl... then reality kicked in. Argh!

i'm pretty sure all the unveiled characters are starters. if he reveals eight more (about two per month, on average, which seems about right), then there'll be 30 starters. if there are 20 unlockables, that's 50 in all, which is still plausible.

I was still under the assumption that when it said "Warning, Challenger Approaches" above the character when they were announced, they were to be an unlocked character.

Only 12 newcomers? I am sure we will see more than that, there were more than 12 newcomers in Melee. Edit: Of course, if your point is that he will not reveal anymore, then he got all of the newcomers out of the way too quickly, I think =\


With the game disk size increasing from 1.5GB to over 8GB, we will certainly see a lot more "new" than we did with the 64 > Melee change. That could easily mean we are looking at near 20 new characters and countless new stages, along with the stage builder, huge single player game, and other new features.

the newcomers box started just big enough to fit one row. he resizes it when he needs to. same goes for the veterans box.

Very true. One thing to keep in mind as well is whether or not the game was expected to be delayed. If Sakurai did not expect a delay and was rushing for the Dec 3rd release, the rate of character updates likely will (and has already seemed to) change drastically. Two more months is over 70 more updates than originally planned.

Yes i guess if he reveals all the unlockables right away it will take some of the fun away but if e ven so you still dont know how to unlock them. Can you amagine having a friendly match with friends and after the match it goes all quiet and "duh duh duh CHALENGER APROUCHING" every one of your friend and you will have there hearts pounding of the intenseness of that match. Like melee for me when i first got it.

I e-mailed Nintendo to ask this very question. They sent me an answer back saying they "Do not have enough information to answer that question as this time. " So I would have to "Find out when you play Super Smash Bros Brawl!"

Conclusion- Nintendo either doesn't read e-mails or is full of idiots.

"Secret" as in unannounced or "secret" as in unlockable? There will certainly be unlockable characters, although, whether he announces all of them his still up for debate.

I suppose online would be a reason for all of the characters to be announced since some people will probably have most/all of them unlocked within a few days, while others will take much longer. Would ruin the surprise he was going for, potentially.

well, technically, almost everybody will see all the secret characters before the game releases... unless you live in Japan. Basically, the moment the game hits store shelves in Japan, all the secret characters/unlockable content will be revealed, even if Brawl has not launched in the rest of the world yet. So yes, essentially everybody will see all the secrets before the game is releases (in your respective country) That is, unless you choose not to look, but that's an individual decision that varies from person to person.

I'd say he'll only show starters/3rd parties until January 24th. He'll probably slow down to one character every 2-3 weeks.

Sakurai said he might reveal all the characters, since now that the internet is in wide use, the entire roster would be leaked once it hit japan, so he would want to reveal all the characters himself.

We have no way of knowing all of the game's secrets until after we unlock them all. I honestly don't care what he shows us on the Dojo, because for every secret he tells us, there could easily be two more that we didn't see coming.

At the rate hes presently going, I wouldn't bet on it. With 1 character every two weeks (which amounts to 2 characters a month), we couldn't even get all the veterans announced before the release. The pace of character announcement would need to pick up significantly for us to get everyone by the release date.

I hope not. I'd really like to not spoil unlockables before the game's release. Then again, seeing them on the Dojo is really just as surprising at it would be to see them on the Challenger Approaching! screen in-game.

Why do people keep insisting that these characters aren't unlockable. There is no way that Sakurai would make the Kirby trio all starters and he certainly wouldn't make the third party characters starters.

Before the American release we are, since Japan gets the game before we do..
