Hello, I would like to share this info as a Snake mainer, sorry if already posted but did not found another thread with this Tech:
While experimenting to do the mortar slide by the Autosmash on the D-pad on a Nunchuck combo I found this.
Contact Mortar slide is posible by, while running, timely tapping side smash on the dpad to activate the Dash attack and then the up dpad, do not slide, is easier doing 2 separate pressings, is quite effective, but where the nunchuck combo shines comes next.
Non contact Mortar Slide can be done failproof by activating the motion sensing smashes for the Wiimote, you just have to run on the intended direction and do the down smash move, it does the non contact mortar slide automatically, perfect timing and whats more if you time correctly and tap A you can charge the mortar and release it at your will, this last I can only confirm it for a contact mortar slide with this tech, not sure if it works for non contact, feel free to contribute, flame, confirm or correct.

Welcome to the boards snakirby.

Most people here, like doC, like the GC controller, so this won't help them too much. Don't worry though, any small tip is good, just don't go to topic happy =P

Thx for the welcome _Phloat_
I am not trying to impose this, just stating that thats the easy way to perform the noncontact mortarslide and to charge the mortar, I do understand that most people playing at a pro level use the GC controller, actually, I don't because I skipped Meelee and the GC altogether and believe it or not my favorite control scheme is the Wiimote alone since I grew too accustomed to the SNES controller, and I do believe I can keep up with any player at my same level of experience with the wiimote alone I am just learning to use the nunchuck and just today began to use the jump button in order to not miss an Utilt by jumping, Altough I admit it would be useful to use the GC controller due to the button positioning I seem more prone to the Wiiclasic If I were to buy a controller.

I discovered something like this, but I had a different way of starting it, button free. When your running, (with motion smash on) flick the wiimote DOWN. the downward motion initiates a running attack, and the upward deceleration activates the Usmash

I think it's easier to do the mortar slide using the Classic Controller.

Run forward -> then "c" stick halfway down then quickly "c" stick up.

Easier to do contact AND no-contact mortar slide.
