With all this tier talk about Snake being at the very top, I've noticed a lot of people panicking about him dominating tournaments and being too powerful and whatnot. But being an amazing character and quite deserving of a spot in top tier aside, it's not like there's nothing people can do to counter pick against Snake. There are certain characters who have a few devious tricks against him.

My secondary being Lucario, I know there's a 0-90% inescapable chain grab combo that can be done on snake at the start of a match or stock, and any time I'm under 50% with that character. He is also tall and heavy enough to be hit by the shorthopped Fair>Nair combo every time. Likewise, the Ice Climbers, Dedede and Pikachu also have similar chain grabs against Snake.

I've 'nade countered a Snake with his own grenades once. Quite often, people are too scared of these projectiles to pick them up and throw them back before they explode, which often actually works better than you'd think.

Snake also seems to be effected by real combos that wouldn't work on other characters for the most part, all because of his height, falling speed, weight and slow aerial game. While it doesn't make these characters counters against him at all (because after all, you still have to deal with his close-range game.) they have more of a chance of putting the hurt on him due to these tricks than others who can't do it.

Snake is an awesome badarse character, but I wish people would stop complaining about him. He does fall victim to some dirty tricks that other character's don't. Lucario can usually only chain throw half of the cast to 60% before they can jump out of it. Snake is just one of the unlucky ones who is affected by the 90% variety.

Falco's chain grab is pretty bad too....even though Snake can escape by the fourth grab, good Falcos know this and follow up with a dash attack cancelled to upsmash to finish the chain, leaving you with a good 60ish% damage right off the bat. Ugh.

Yes, he has counters, so people need not complain.

Agreed. Snake does have weaknesses but people choose to not exploit them. People shouldn't be complaining about Snake if they don't try the things that cab be used against Snake easily.

Snake is not as amazing as people make them out to be. Once you learn to not let his mind games fool you and you start predicting what he might do with that C4, or when those grenades are gonna blow, or search the ground for proximity/remote mines, it's very very easy to take down Snake since you've got over half of his attacks down. The close-combat then would be the only thing you should worry about, and if you're like me, you take the battle to the skies!

Snake gets easily gimped because of his recovery (though it does have superarmor) and slooooow aerials. Anyone who can combo aerially can gimp him. All he can do is DI away and hope to airdodge the next hit, no chance to actually hit the opponent.

Snake is pretty broken, you guys make him sound like he sucks. He's a great character, better than just about everyone. However he's not the best, and absolutely sucks offstage, so he's not invincible either.

Contradicting yourself much? To be broken means that there's nothing you can do about it, which is what most people are truely forgetting lately. People like to throw the term "broken" around a lot..but they're misusing the term...

True enough.

As far as throwing his grenades back though...with the advent of neonading or whatever the heck people are calling it these days, I'd say picking them up is a bad idea.

I'm not contradicting myself. Snake is overpowered, but there are a couple people even more overpowered. That's essentially what my post meant

Snake isn't finished if you get him in the air. He'll just pull out a nade and have you both take damage; and trading with Snake isn't a good idea with many characters. Snake is ONLY a problem for me because of him holding nades to 'grenade counter' both of us. I have no problem owning a snake otherwise.

Solid Snake is ridiculously tough on the ground, but his aerial game stinks. He's also slow and a fast faller. He's a good fighter, but can never be top tier material; not when dealing with the likes of Toon Link or Wolf.

And the award for biggest idiot goes to...

Lol @ Snake not being able to compete with Wolf or Toon Link. You obviously have no clue how to play Snake, or you'd think twice about saying that.

Since I main Wolf along with Snake, and play against a good TL constantly, I can assure you neither one of them are horrible matchups for him.

Snake is great oh wait he isn't.

f-smash. mother fracker.
Basing a character off of one move is a terrible way to judge a character. Judging by the character under your name I'm going to assume you main Toon Link. I could easily say that Toon Link is horrible because of his horrid d-air.

You have to consider everything about a character. Snake is great because he has great moves, the best mind-gamez out of everybody, is heavy, has a great recovery(if used correctly), can crawl and has very few characters that counter him.
