However if by "Smogen" you are referring to the application shoddybattle (the battle simulator), then the answer is... still no. It's pretty safe, won't give you viruses or anything. Download it at this link.
When you download it you can use the team builder to make a team then get on the servers to find matches. You should join the smogon server, it's the biggest. Just make a name and password and you can use the find tab to find matches.

This won't matter. It's run through javascript, so it runs on just about every (if not every) OS.

I've learned to look for things like these, thanks to the fact that I also own a Mac.
