Smasher finding himself lost in Riverside CA

I recently moved to the Riverside CA from Columbus OH. There is a rumor in the midwest that CA is the land of milk and honey and smashers. I am curious if there is a community in or near Riverside CA, and if so, would a nooby midwesterner be able to partake in some smash?
