Regardless of the people's problems, it's still there to achieve a goal with less effort, and that is offend people/get the poster banned/whatever. That's what practicality is to me. But it's whatever, that was just an example so I can drop it.All those things are problems with the people not problems with the picture(s). Rules can be changed, and being emotionally offended by a picture is a reaction people have control of. Not arguing in favor of porn. Just that something being purely cosmetic is not a reason to include it.
I agree that something being purely cosmetic isn't a good enough reason to include it, that's why on my original post I said:
I think dislikes would actually be helpful in, for example, aiding moderators decide whether a post is disruptive and deserving of infractions, instead of always borderline and inciting discussions between other moderators ( It won't be an answer, just an aid). Or maybe pointing out to newcomers who not to be like in the website. Or incite good posts in the parts of the forum that matter (which are always heavily moderated as well).I actually would like the "like" system as long as it comes with a "dislike" system as well. If not, then uhh... It'll pretty much just be a cosmetic, ignorable change to SWF.
I'd rather not, for reasons somewhat similar to yours. It doesn't have any obvious effects, no, but it serves to change the way people post, and for the worse. Getting likes becomes a focus of posts. If you don't believe me, just look at facebook or reddit. I don't want that **** here.
