RCC Super Smash Club Presents: Smash @ The Grind!

RCC Super Smash Club’s first official event, Smash @ The Grind will be a free double elimination Smash 3DS tournament taking place on February 18th in the basement of Back to the Grind coffee shop in downtown Riverside. We’re very excited to host our inaugural event at this historic location and we hope that you’ll attend! As a reminder, please don’t bring any outside food or drinks. Try to get some drink or food from the venue, it’s really good stuff! If you have any questions, feel free to message us and we’ll clarify whatever questions you may have.

UPDATE: Courtesy of Arcade Wednesdays, we will officially have Amiibo prizes for the top three contestants at this event and possibly some more prizes to be determined, as well as two Wii U setups for friendlies (free for anyone who wants to come regardless of tournament entry)

Schedule (subject to change):
5pm - Signups begin
6pm - Start of tournament
If you are not signed in by 6pm, you’ll likely be unable to participate.

Pre-Registration:

http://goo.gl/forms/L0AZ4MtRmw

It is recommended that you pre-register since it’ll make the seeding process a lot smoother and thus, the tournament experience will go a lot better.

Rules:
-You must bring your own Nintendo 3DS system and copy of Smash for 3DS, along with the latest patch.
-All DLC characters, including Bayonetta and Corin, will be legal.
-Each set will be best 2 out of 3 games and 3 out of 5 games for the top 8.
-Each game will be 2 stocks with a 6 minute time limit. Any game reaching the time limit will be decided by who has the highest stock count remaining or the least damage if stocks are tied.
-In the event that the above conditions still result in a tie, a 1 stock, 3 minute game on the same stage will be played to break the tie.
-All suicide moves such as Bowsercide, Ganoncide, etc. will result in victory for the initiator of the move, regardless of sudden death or the results screen. In the event of a dispute, please save the replay and allow a TO to make the final judgement.
-Miis of any size and combination of special moves are allowed for the tournament. Opponents may request to see which special moves you are using before the game.
-You may change the specials after any match, but it counts as a character switch and must follow the rules of character switching as such. (These rules will be listed below)
-Other custom specials, equipment and Amiibo are banned. If you are found to be using any different customs (besides Miis), equipment (including Miis) or an Amiibo, you will be disqualified from the tournament.

Stage and Character Switching Rules
-The following stagelist will be used for the event:
Battlefield
Final Destination/Omega Stages
Prism Tower
Arena Ferox
Yoshi’s Island
Reset Bomb Forest
Duck Hunt
Dreamland 64 *
Brinstar **

-The full list stage striking (FLSS) system will be used to choose stages, which will be explained below.
-A Rock-Paper-Scissors game will be played at the beginning of the set, the winner of which gets to ban a stage from the list. The second player bans 2 more stages, and the two will continue banning 2 stages until there are 2 left, at which point the winner will get to choose which stage to play on the first game. (Banning, or striking, occurs in this order: 1-2-2-2-1)
-The winner of the first game may choose to change their character, but they must do so before their opponent changes theirs. Once characters are finalized, the winner of game 1 may ban two stages from the list, leaving 7 options on the list for the other player to choose for the next game. This process is repeated after each game until the set is over.
-Dave’s Stupid Rule (DSR) is in effect, meaning that you cannot choose a stage you have previously won on. DSR may be nullified if your opponent agrees to play on the stage.

* If you do not have Dreamland 64 purchased, it is absolutely recommended that you buy it. You will still be able to compete if you do not own the stage, but please let us know either in the pre-registration form and/or during signups. In the event that you don’t own it, you will be seeded with players who do have the stage. If neither player in a particular set has DL64, let a TO know and it will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

** Brinstar may be replaced by Umbera Clock Tower upon release if it is deemed to be a better stage for competition by the RCC Super Smash Club officers.
