Note: These articles are more for discussion purposes before E3. They'll be short, sweet, and to the point for a brief recap and looking into possible characters/stages for each series in Smash Bros. Mr. Game & Watch has been a part of Smash since Super Smash Bros. Melee as one of the series' retro characters. He's always had one stage in each game he's been in (Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U counting as separate entities in this case). It's a bit weird that we're even doing this one... But, how else would we do every series?
So, how about this time?
Returning Characters
There's a .01% chance that Mr. Game & Watch gets replaced or cut. He's one of Smash's main retro characters and one of the most important characters to Nintendo's gaming history.
New Characters
Uh, I tried searching pretty hard for this. The only character that might make any reasonable sense for the .001% chance that they decide "Every Smash series needs a new characters!" Is the Octopus from the Game & Watch title, Octopus. While even Ice Climbers could fit in a second character just to mess with people, for this game, it just feels completely pointless.
Returning Stages
Flat Zone 1 or just bringing back X.
New Stages
If Flat Zone X returns, they'll likely add new stuff and rebrand it. It's hard to tell exactly what they'll do with Mr. Game & Watch, but his next stage will probably be inside the Game & Watch handheld.
