For the second episode of the 'Smash Scenes' documentary series, the GosuJasu team is providing viewers a peek into one of Super Smash Bros. Melee's lesser known scenes: South Korea.

'Korean Melee' covers the past and present of the country's Super Smash Bros. Melee scene. Initially comprised of expats and foreign workers, such as old-school Midwest Smasher Ray "RCK" Chun, the scene grew by establishing a semi-permanent base of operations at ArcadeStream, a local fighting game hub.

"Their community was charming, but unfortunately reduced in size due to lack of exposure," said series co-creator Jason Russak. Although the scene eventually started to include more local players, circumstances, equipment unavailability and a general lack of coverage hindered its growth.

Today, the Korean Melee scene is few in number. Weeklies top out at less than 10 attendees, whereas monthlies barely exceed that amount. While the country's mostly online Super Smash Bros. for Wii U scene has eclipsed it, its Melee players remain dedicated to the game they love in any way they can.

Episodes for 'Smash Scenes' will continue to be released weekly. Primarily a project of ToggleSings and the aforementioned Russak, the team aims to highlight more underexposed scenes out there in the coming weeks.
