Melee has the best character individuality and the best balancing of all the games, which is surprising considering it was the 2nd game in the series. Hoping for some fix in Sm4sh and Brawl

Smash 64 and Smash 4 are better balanced. Melee is kind of (in)famous for having horrible balance

You do know that it's been too late to fix anything in Brawl ever since it was released, right? PAL version fixed a few glitches, if that counts

Sakurai said that Smash 4 wouldn't get any more balance patches in an interview

Yeah, Melee has pretty bad balance. But Brawl Metaknight was worse imo. It's still a beautiful accident in terms of design.

It's probably better that melee doesn't get balance patches or anything of the sort. Look at PM, it's so hard to balance a game with a developing meta!

Aren't all of its characters viable? That's better balance than having 8/26 characters viable

Yeah we were telling the same thing before Amsa came out. :x
A lot of people were saying they were unsure of Yoshi, some saying he had a lot of potential to be high tier (Sweden). Yoshi was often admitted as a wild-card. With that said, it's pretty clear, especially if you look at the Japanese meta, that Yoshi is, at best, Pikachu level (and I say this while finding Pikachu over-rated), meaning he'll never actually be a "tournament viable" character like Fox or even Sheik/Peach.

Characters like Young Link, Doc, Ganon and Ness still have a lot of room for optimization, but they'll never be Yoshi stories. They lack Yoshi's (long-known) absurd movement and invincibility abuses -- there's nothing groundbreaking with them.

The biggest wild card at this point in the meta is, imo, Ice Climbers.

Smash 4 is much better balanced
Actually, we don't know that yet. The meta is only a quarter of a year old, so that means that there is new tech to find, new character-specific exploits to discover, and for all we know, Diddy or ZSS may be the new Meta Knight. I do think that 64 is the best-balanced Smash game, though.
