Smash is like food.
Everyone likes it their own way. Some people are connoisseurs (pros) and care about what they are eating (playing). They want to have a new elaborate dish (Brawl) with overwhelming flavors (Advanced Techs) , many unique (new moves) yet also some traditional (like Melee) elements, and the right amount of everything (balanced).
Other people (noobs) don't care exactly what they are eating (playing). They just want to eat (play) something that they enjoy (is fun). Some even complain when the food is too spicy (fast) and is too elaborate (has ATs). Most people are in the middle, but can be grouped into one of the sides, typically.
The chef (Sakurai) does not want to discourage new people from trying his dishes, so he takes away some exotic seasonings and spices (wave dashing, L canceling, etc.) and replaces them with simpler seasonings (toadstool jumping, momentum dodging, etc). The new dish (Brawl) is milder (slower), but easier for the newer people to consume (learn to pay).
Of course the connoisseurs (pros) do not like the new milder (slower) and less interesting (no ATs) dish at first. They find the lack of the exotic seasonings and spices (wave dashing, L canceling, etc.) makes the dish taste bland (makes the game boring) and overall less enjoyable (less fun). Some might find the newer ingredients (new ATs) to be sufficient to enjoy the dish (have fun with the game) in the end, but it may not be as exquisite as the previous dish (not as good as Melee).
In order for everyone to enjoy the dish, it would have to be prepared exactly how each person prefers it (customizable options). People should be able to choose how spicy (fast) or mild (slow) their dish (game) is. They should be able to choose which seasonings and spices (ATs) they put on their dish (play their game with). Other people (noobs) should not complain when connoisseurs (pros) add all sorts of seasonings and spices to their dish (play with ATs), because they can eat (play) their dish (game) however they want.
Bon Appetite (Good Game)
