srsly

it amazes me

most "good" players have a very cautious and defensive playstyle and since that is obviously the best tactic in this game, they often win, so people consider them "good"

isai is really the only person i know who can bum rush you with any character and win. that takes a completely different skillset that i believe only he has

i will never have good internet

plus i suck :awesome:

and i've seen a few vids of you, SK, and i like your aggressive playstyle. by far my favorite playstyle to watch (i think most people can agree on this). some vids of you vs. isai would be really fun

it's too bad you're a young whippersnapper and couldn't take up isai on his offer during apex!

Kind of ironic at s2j is posting this considering he essentially never approached my Yoshi with his Falcon.

And to be honest I think boom plays significantly less gay vs me than Isai. Isai will camp above my Yoshi on dreamland 99% of the match because he knows Yoshi can't approach/chase anything above him.

EDIT: Jaime is probably the worst though. Awesome kid but he's the most defensive player ever.

I'm only including people I've played. Gerson would definitely challenge for the title though.

I never do this. Watching people only do this for an entire match makes me very sad in the pants. Need more random falcon kicks, bro.

You have a very skewed idea of a good falcon.

I think that at this point, for the most part, the meta game has changed so that whenever people are playing seriously, they're playing defensively, unless the gap in skill is large. I used to play super aggressively because people, in general, weren't as good at punishing that play style a few years ago. Now I can only play that way if I'm a decent amount better than my opponent or if my opponent isn't playing defensively.

This is something I was actually lamenting at apex. I love playing aggresively, but If my opponent is playing defensively, it's hard to not respond with a defensive play style since it seems as though in most scenarios, the attacker is at a distinct disadvantage in ssb64. I think a lot of smash at this point boils down to feigning an attack well enough that it causes your opponent to respond with something that leaves them open, and then taking advantage of that. There's nothing inherently bad about this, it just sucks when it gets to the point that neither player can make the other screw up, and then both just end up camping. Or if they're not even bothering to make fake attacks. That's the worst.

Outside of tigerbombz, the only other person I can think of that I've played that just plays aggressively as hell regardless is darklink. The last time I played darklink was the apex before last and damn, those were probably the best/most fun matches I played.

Also, falcon u-airs: Sure, pretty combos are nice, but if I'm in a scenario where I can do something fancy for less damage or do u-airs and do more damage, I'll string together the u-airs. I've played/seen plenty of matches where going for something fancy and screwing up cost the player the game when they could have just done something standard and ended it. It's all about GTO in my opinion.

Excellent post megavolt!

I agree with the falcon thing, I actually don't mind when people do uair chains. It's a legit combo, that's what smash 64 is about.

The other thing is I actually don't mind camping that much either. It makes the game intense. I'd rather play someone playing their best camping then playing someone sub-par and aggressive.

I really hate camping and it's essence but I understand why it's done, especially in money/tournament matches. I get super salty about excessive camping in friendlies though.

I agree with Yoshi on heavy weights. I don't agree with Ness, Fox and Kirby.

And yes Star King, but you still have to show/prove it to all :).

Lol as if it's something possible to prove. If an aggressive player is successful people will say "He only can because he's better than everyone else, and he'd be even better if he was defensive". Unshakable preconceived notions.

Yeah I usually go hard aggro on everyone, sometimes I feel like I should be more patient though

If enough players were good when being aggressive, I'm sure this would convince a lot of people. The problem is for now there's only one, which is the best known player*, so that can't prove anything. If in a final of a tournament, two players of the same skill level were playing, one being campy, the other aggro and the camper lost, then that could help. There just need to be more occurence of aggressive players winning. Also, it's not about preconceived notion, since we notice that when we change from aggressive to campy, we win more. Is it because we do things wrong? Maybe, but it doesn't matter, since the result is here, we take it as working.

* there's also you, but since we never see you play, most people don't think about it I guess.

1. Isai is incredible
2. Boom has developed a more aggressive and creative playstyle, he's also incredible
3. I'm a aggressive player... I think... I'm sure...
4. Defensive people usually bore me unless I'm playing Fox or Pikachu
5. Good to decent players that do nothing but basic stuff, especially with easy characters like Falcon, make me lose motivation while playing them. I can understand if you just don't have the talent, but when you don't even bother to try to be creative, its like all you care for is winning, and to me it sucks the fun out of the game.

Meh, I don't think Isai and I are the only ones. And maybe the non-Americans don't see me play but the Americans who play online do.

Fair enough on not being as successful when you try to be aggressive. I think it's because people expect to be able to rush the opponent mindlessly when good aggressive play revolves around reading. Or they just can't pull it off, because in my experience the community sucks at reading.

isai plays defensive against defensive players. I wish people would stop saying he is a super aggressive player. He's a very smart player, which can look aggressive or defensive depending on who he's playing. At Apex I found boom to be much more aggressive based on playing him and watching Grand Finals.

Not that aggression/defense is good or bad, just don't let old stereotypes continue that aren't true.

So what if he's *sometimes* defensive? I am too. I think what matters is how you usually play, and I'd say Isai is usually aggressive IMO.

well vs me, he was mostly defensive. That includes the tourney matches and 2 or 3 other matches you'll never see. IMO, he was more defensive than aggressive. It's just that when he lands a hit you're dead lol. But certainly different playstyles mesh differently, maybe I'm the only player he's defensive with.

Honestly I take more issue with people saying boom is defensive. He's relentless on the offense in my experience
