Going to be honest here.

Tournaments taking precedence over wii u tournaments will most likely never happen.

Leading up to the release on wii u, expect it to be a side tourney at every melee/project m event. Probably brawl too before it gets replaced by smash 4 s release on wii u.

You can't play "For Glory" with friends. It even said so in the Direct. "For Glory" and "For Fun" only with when playing against random opponents online. Meaning that it will have no impact on organized tournament events. At all.

As for the 3DS tourney scene, like most people have said it will probably remain a side event with a dedicated fanbase of people who only ever intended to get the 3DS version. It'll be hard to mash buttons with the 3DS, and the graphic quality of the Wii U version will appeal to spectators more. In any case, I could see tournaments being held both locally and online. There's also the possibility of Smash Run tournaments, they could help keep the 3DS in the tournament scene.

My guess is that at the bare minimum, the 3ds version of smash bros 4 will be a great choice for local tournaments as well as online tournaments held here on this very site. Though it is possible as one poster commented on this thread to hook up a 3ds to a tv, I dunno if MLG, EVO, etc would want to bother doing that?

I'm positive both will coexist, but I believe the general consensus is that the WiiU version will be shown off more in tourneys due to the ease of streaming and greater presentation.

I own two Mayflash Adapters and I can tell you, there's not nearly as good as they may seem. The connection sometimes flips out and, personally, it makes it hard for meto play.

Honestly, you'd be better off playing with a Classic Controller.
Are any of those wiiu pro controllers?

The WiiU will have more popular tournaments but the 3DS will still have a hardcore following..you can be sure of that
How can we when the game isn't even out yet?
Don't you need to buy a capture card for that?
Last I checked, yes.

Either someone's gonna have to begin striking deals with the person who makes said capture cards or someone will have to discover an inexpensive way to record. There's no other way I can think of.

I could see tournaments happening for the 3DS. At least until the Wii U version is released. I'd suspect the majority of the following would then switch to the home console due to several factors (screen size, controllers, etc). Perhaps we'll see some Tournament Organizers have both versions at the tournament, though sad to say I see the 3DS version being more of a side event than main. Just my two cents.

Smasboards suck
If someone would mind describing their past experience playing smash with the Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller I would definitely appreciate the insight. I have tried playing Project M using the Wii U Classic Controller (ugh..) and the Wii U Classic Pro Controller (meh..,) and they both feel far to "light". Really need more weight. I did see they have an adapter that lets your Game Cube controller connect to your Wii U so I guess I can use that for Smash 4. :/
Here is someone playing Melee with Wii U Pro Controller. I own 3 of these babies and they are excellent. And the battery life is insane

I feel like 3DS tournaments will be a thing, but just not nearly as popular as the Wii U tournaments.
