The sole person who is absolutely integral for AMAs got fired. She's beloved by the community.
As a result, many major subreddits have turned private to protest.

Reddit is a mixed bag to me. Sometimes it's good for gifs, actually serious discussion, and AMAs, but other times it's just plain cancer. It all stems down to the downvote system though and how the reddiquette of not downvoting based on disagreement isn't enforced at all.
