On the issue of Pokémon/Tamagotchi:

Pokémon came out Feb 1996 in Japan, Tamagotchi came out on the same year in November. In terms of America, yes, Tamagotchi had over a year head start on Pokémon, but ultimately Pokémon was the one that came out first.
