The Outset costume has orange pants. That one doesn't, so it's not that.

It could be something original to Smash.

SEGA has a rule about Sonic always being the "Blue dude with a 'tude" in promotional material. It's not surprising to see that reflected in all his blue alts.

I think Namco has a similar thing with Pac-Man. Pac's not a color changer, and he's known worldwide for his yellow hockey-puck design, so it makes sense for Smash to keep him yellow.

Yeah, the one with the yellow tongue looks a little greenish to me. Though other wise, I'd agree, it would have been cool to see a really bright green.

Because the NES and ALttP/ALBW colors are so on point it doesn't even matter.
