I'm in the camp that thinks any more than 2 more characters is wishful thinking. also, Brawl's character select can fit 50 characters

While a good possibility, don't forget that in the game's data there's graphics for next/previous pages icons for the character select screen.

It all depends how they handle the fact that the 3DS' top screen resolution is 400x240.

Looking at 64, Melee and DLC Smash 4 CSS, I really doubt Sakurai cares about a beautiful CSS. But yeah, I'm on #TeamKermit. I don't think there are six characters left.

Undertale. Chances are you've heard of it somewhere, but what exactly is it?
The game is an RPG made by Toby "Radiation" Fox, known for Radiation's Halloween Hack for Earthbound and composing various songs for Homestuck.
In the game, you take the role of a human who falls underground into the world of monsters. Your goal is to escape, or stay there forever.
The catch to this is how the game is played - Killing is unnecessary. You can beat the game without killing a single monster. Aside from this, instead of simple Attack / Get attacked RPG style, you can avoid your foe's attack in a bullet hell style. (Think the Mario & Luigi games, but instead of timed button presses you have to play a mini-schmup.)

Brawl had 7 characters incomplete. It is technically impossible to have extra content added to a Wii game, thus the Forbidden 7 were characters scrapped due to time constraints or other reasons. Also, Brawl's CSS in the actual game has 36 boxes. Assuming those 7 were added, that would only be 43 boxes; the game can actually hold 7 more than that without the use of additional codes.

The amount of extra space on a character select screen means nothing.

There's currently 3 placeholder character slots in the code (2 from before the ballot, and 1 added after the ballot ended), so that's the least we're gonna be getting.

Quite honestly, I really don't care who gets in as DLC anymore. There's always going to be people who may not like who gets in, and by the looks of it, we may not know who won the ballot anytime this month.

I don't think there was really any "winning" the ballot, it was probably just a poll to gauge popularity more than anything.
