Most likely there modes will return to the Wii U version.
Smash Run will likely be the unique mode to the 3DS, while the Wii U will have something different that is, as of yet, unannounced.

I actually like this. It gives a new twist to Classic mode as well as the option to increase difficulty in the middle of it. Not sure what the rewards you'll be collecting but it looks to be custom moves as well as power-ups and trophies. Pretty cool and makes Classic a bit more fun to run through. I believe character power-ups are exclusive to the 3ds version but I can still see them implementing this style in the Wii U version.

Adventure mode is possible, but don't expect something like the Subspace mode in Brawl. Sakurai has stated that a mode of it's magnitude is not in the cards this time around,
I know that. I'm expecting a hybrid of Melee's adventure with boss battles and solving puzzles like in the SSE.

Edit:
And co-op mode as well.

On the topic of modes, it seems that Target Smash has been axed in favor of Target Blast.

I don't mind about the Target Smash. I was never really interested in that mode. I only played it to unlock things.

I re-found my love for classic mode upon resetting the memory on Brawl, but it did tend to get repetitive seeing as you had to do it like 35 times lol

Kind of sad to see Target Smash get axed, but then again, at least we're getting a new mode in its place, rather than Brawl's five lackadaisically constructed levels. I'd definitely like to see it return in classic form in the Wii U, though, as Melee's Target Smash levels were pretty awesome.

Classic mode's looking pretty nice, though; seems like a nice update of the old format. I wouldn't be surprised if All-Star mode showed up eventually as well, but I imagine they can't really announce it before all the characters are revealed. I could see playing those two and Smash Run quite a bit.

I hope they return to the melee format for all-star mode rather than battling all the franchise characters at the same time.
And also fight literally every character. I hated that you would either fight Samus or Zero sir Samus, Zelda or Sheik. Obviously that will change.

I really wish they would add good old Race to the Finish in Sm4sh. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. OH and Board the Platforms also :(

Don't forget Event Mode! That and Adventure Mode were the only two single player modes I could always go back and play.

Yes those epic bonus stages. If they do bring back Target Test and Board the Platforms, I would like individual stages or at least franchise stages rather than the "easy, medium, etc" stages.

Well that mode is a given just because it's been in both Melee and Brawl already. But at least one of the old 64 modes should make it. A man can dream :(

I don't they would do this, but four player events or stadium challenges anyone?

Oh also that screen with the blocks that say accomplish X to unlock Y. That was convenient so I knew what to do next after competing the obvious. Lol

Speaking of modes, anyone seeing Boss Battle coming back in Sm4sh? In my opinion it would be pretty cool to see it come back but I'm kinda iffy on it.

I could see 4-player events. Some where you all have to work together to accomplish a goal. Such as defeat the Yellow Devil within a certain time. It would have to be something cooperative because events are usually something you have to work to complete. It would be cool if more than 4 characters could be on screen. Then you could have 4 characters against some type of boss

Some of those bosses were quite difficult on the harder difficulty settings. It would be a good challenge to include again.

Edit: these are some very cool ideas. I wish ol Sakurai could read some, or heck, have a poll or select a group of casual and competitive Smashers for gameplay input. Something similar to what Lucasfilm is doing for the new direction of Star Wars.

I'd really like for there to be a custom Target Test mode. Just like the Stage Builder, except for Target Tests.

It's possible that regular Target Tests are exclusive to the Wii U game while Smash 3DS gets Target Blast.

That said, if BTT isn't individualized for the characters again as it was in Melee, I'd rather it just not be in the games at all. It's kind of unfortunate that as the cast of characters grew larger and larger each game, the more and more modes like Board the Platforms and Break the Targets were phased out/lessoned due to the difficulty of designing courses around 50 or so characters.

Having courses for weight classes could work right?

That might work, thing is is that every character is different. Small characters usually can jump real high yet look at Little Mac and Kirby and tell me which has the obvious drastic advantage. Idk.

I just hope they remix the Melee Target Test music, even if the Target Test doesn't return. So much nostalgia. So much soul, baby.

True true. I guess the easy, medium, hard etc courses are the best way to go since the roster is growing significantly since 64 and Melee.

Do some of you guys actually want Stage Builder to come back? I honestly didn't like it that much but I'm pretty curious what you guys think.

Yeah I think that's the way to go too. I just hope they put in one character-specific Target Test for everyone as well if that is the case.

I made a ton of custom stages in Brawl, unfortunately I didn't fight on them too much. They were always either a bit smaller or a bit larger than I intended them to be.

God I love Melee's soundtracks.

I actually enjoyed stage builder, but I thought it was very limited.

I made my own Melee cd when the game came out lol I searched the web for every track from it

It was a good idea, but it was terribly limited in terms of options and themes. Expand on it a little (IE actually having Nintendo backdrops/props instead of generic crap) and it could be decent.

Also a good way to get Project M 3D booted up

YES, I totally agree right here. It had only a few good things but spikes and springs... not what I was looking for.

Yeah it had limited options. Some things took up a lot of space too, especially the special parts.

I can see it working real well with the Gamepad though. So I definitely wouldn't mind it being back if they improved it.

Right, it would be cool to have Mario pipes or something from actual games to throw in.

The game pad is already going to into Mario Maker so it's not a stretch they could be using the same creative technique for Smash 4 first

I really do hope the original BTT comes back. as well as BTP & RTTF. I love the new branching paths aspect in classic mode. I'm gonna be on that a lot I can already tell. I'll be fine with target blast if it stays 3DS exclusive.

but more on topic, I do think classic mode will have branching paths on the wii U version as well. & Sakurai already said the Wii U version would have a mode that is in the middle ground between adventure mode & SSE

Sakurai said some modes will be unlockable, or at least that's what I gathered from the day's info....RTTF was the most efficient way for me to get coins in Melee, but BTP I wasn't really a fan of...either way, those and BTT could still be in it, just maybe in a different mode or unlockable?

Thats a good theory.

They've slowly been withering one of the simpliest creative modes in the Smash Bros. series into dust. To morph it into angry birds is just hurtful.

Like I said before, hopefully the target blast is a 3ds exclusive

I'd like to see Break The Targets return. If it ends up in the bin like Race to the Finish and Board the Platforms then that would be really disappointing.

Stage Builder should be back as a Wii U exclusive. They have the resources to give us an in-depth stage builder on this console. It just needs more work and care put into it.

Event Matches needs to come back and actually be fun again. I couldn't get into Brawl's events at all.

Adventure Mode I could give or take it. I'd rather have a new mode replace it then have it become an exclusive.
