When Sakurai first posted the list of contributing musicians on the Dojo's first update, he described it as being "risky". Why? It is difficult to say just yet, but it could correlate to the number of stages we will be seeing in Brawl. The list can be found here: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music01.html

So far, all of the music updates have provided music to be used in certain stages. Each of the contributors has taken part in one arrangement thus far as well. Granted, we have only received 5 music updates so far, but this is still something to consider. There are 36 names total on the list of contributing musicians. Here is what we know so far:

1) Motoi Sakuraba -> SSBM: Menu 1 -> Battlefield
2) Masafumi Takada -> Yoshi's Story: Ending -> Yoshi's Island
3) Yusuke Takahama -> Metroid: Boss Battle Music (Ridley Fight) -> (unknown)
4) Michiko Naruke -> The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Medley -> Bridge of Eldin (or unknown)
5) Kenji Ito -> Star Fox: Space Armada -> Lylat Cruise

That leaves at least 31 more music updates and--possibly--32 more stages. The "risk" to which Sakurai alluded could be revealing the number of stages in Brawl by posting the list of musicians.

Speculate away. :)

Just to warn you... this could of been posted in the Composers topic, but then again, people here like Math thats about Smash... I think this is cool, and also tells us that ther can be that many stages. But some composers might team up, some might not be recognized, some might do 5 songs, so we cant really be for sure.

Exactly. It's, as of yet, too early to tell for sure. But I still think that it is an interesting hypothesis that is less about the music / musicians and more about the significance of the list itself.

Well also consider the fact that there may be more music or less stages due to 'bonus' tracks such as Mach Rider or Balloon Fight in Melee.

Yeah I'd assume atleast one or two may team up, and then there's also the odd bits of music that aren't directly related to a stage such as menu music. Also as stated above some stages had an alternate theme. Then I also doubt that some would only do 1 stage, there'd be a few composers who'd do more than one I'd say.

I thought that it was "risky" because some composers might bring a playable character to the roster. Such as Akihiro Honda(Metal Gear Solid 4) brang Snake. So that would mean Hajime Wakai(Pikmin) might bring Olimar, Kazumi Totaka(Animal Crossing) might bring Tom Nook, Toshiyuki Sudo(Everybody Votes Channel) might bring Mii etc etc etc.

But your theory is plausible, ill give you that.
